I have never met more inexperienced and unprofessional hairdresser, as Charlotte which I encountered in "Tony and Guy" salon in Deansgate, Manchester. Avoid, avoid, this inexperienced hairdresser in Deansgate salon. I surprised how a salon like "Tony and Guy" in Deansgate have put on their list: Charlotte as a Technical Director. But in that salon everyone is a Technical Director. Not many listed as senior stylists or colourists in that salon. A back street hairdresser is more knowledgable than this unprofessional and clueless hairdresser. What I asked from Charlotte was a box standard simple hair dye job. But Charlotte acted clueless, and completely unprofessional and insecure in her abilities.
I should had listened the salon's Receptionist who she tried to booked me with Rachel. As Charlotte tried to ask advices about my hair from Rachel.
I arrived in "Tony and Guy" salon in Deansgate 10 minutes earlier than my appointment was booked, in order to have a consultation with Charlotte and to dye my hair at the same day. I asked from Charlotte to refresh my roots to already a copper dye that I had on and to added up some burgundy lowlights. Charlotte asked me what "burgundy" colour is !!!!!!
I then rephrased it to said to her: "copper colour all over my hair, and like dark wine colour lowlights". She stared at me with a clueless look and she kept asking me what colour is: dark wine colour.
I ended up to asked her to show me a colour chart. I pointed out to her the Copper colour that I wanted, with dark red lowlights colour that I wanted. As already I had a copper colour on, I will thought it will had been easy for Charlotte to go ahead. She objected, that dark red lowlights with copper dye all over, it will be a high maintencance colour. To make it easy for her I showed her my photographs with copper colour I had dyed them from another salon.
When Charlotte told me that she can not achieve the same copper colour as the other salon did, then to made it ---MORE--- easier for her, I compromised and I showed her a second photograph with my hair dyed in a copper colour with blond highlights on the top. I said to Charlotte, that: "I will compromise to dye my hair like I had it before: Copper colour with some blond highlights". (However originally I asked for lowlights, but she seemed to struggle with it).
--------Charlotte said that she could Not achieve even a box standard copper colour with blond highlights on, which I already had them on my hair. And it will had been easy for Charlotte to just refresh it and add up some highlights.--------
-------She struggled even to go ahead with this suggestion. During my consultation with Charlotte I compromised 3 times!!!!! to made it easy for her, to achieve any copper colour she wanted on my hair. And still she seemed to struggled.--------
In the end Charlotte suggested to put some copper highlights on my hair and to dye the rest hair dark!. However it was Not what I asked for. I agreed.
She told me she will go away to prepare the dye. Then she came back after 10 minutes, to told me that she spoke with her Manager and she wanted to booked me another appointment, in order to strip my hair, to dye them copper.
Which this is a very harsh job and hairdressers do only when clients ask for a blond hair dye.
-------I asked a box standard copper dye, that I already had on. I even showed her my photographs from 1 year ago, in order to help her to achieve this.--------- Charlotte seemed insecure in her abilities.
She even told me she wanted to ask her Colleague: Rachel about my hair.
I do Not understand why "Tony and Guy" put her on their list as Technical Director. Charlotte seems to struggle to achieve a standard hair dye job. She acts like a Trainee from a Hairdresser's Academy.
After she wasted my 30 minutes, then she pretended she went away to prepared the dye and she came back being all insecure asking me to ask her colleague Rachel about my hair, I walked out.
Nor just she is clueless, she does not seem to have a standard knowledge of how to dye someone's...

While of course having a haircut is the main reason for being there, and it is done well and with care, Toni & Guy make sure that nothing is rushed and you are made to feel valued while you are there, offering a full, welcoming, kind, friendly and professional experience.
Shanais, who has cut my hair now on 3 occasions, is excellent, bubbly, fun and simply very good at ensuring that her clients have the desired experience at Toni & Guy, one that befits the establishment and reputation it maintains.
Follow up review from August 2024:
I love Toni & Guy! Itās the only place in the UK I actually trust to cut my hair. Shanais was great and lovely as usual - a real sweetheart. Iām just worried now that she said sheās going to be away at the beginning of 2025! Hot chocolate offered was delicious as well.
Follow up February 2025:
I was with someone new (for me) today, Natalie, and she was as lovely as Shanais, who I usually see. I really enjoyed our time and chat and was very happy with what she did with my hair. (And hope I didnāt bore her socks off by talking so much.) I was also very appreciative of the cappuccino, hot chocolate and 2 biscuits!

I was welcomed nicely (as usual) and given fantastic treatment (as usual) - on this occasion there was something extra special/new to me where the stylist (Charlotte) raised the legs of the seat I was on for the hair wash and turned on the massage seat - a very...
Read moreI called to book the Olaplex treatment, cut and blowdry and was quoted £65 ( I also informed the salon of my hair type and length, I also requested a hair stylist trained in curly hair - which is how they reached this number) I wanted the Olaplex 1&2 treatment which can only be done in salons because i had just bought the Olaplex 3 treatment to use as a follow up at home. The hair stylist seemed lovely and we had a lengthy conversation about Olaplex and its benefits but I could feel something was off. Upon finishing my treatment, i noticed the that the product the stylist used in my hair was L'Oreal Smart Bond treatment and not the olaplex. I was a little flustered to deal with this there and then because I was so taken aback. I called the salon every other day for 2 weeks before I spoke to the manager who offered me a £20 refund and was very dismissive and extremely rude. The manager had also said that the salon should have in fact charged me more because of my hair type - I was deeply hurt by the manager's ( Claire) casual racism - if you can't work with all types of hair then you shouldn't work with hair . I didn't expect a salon such as Toni & Guy to operate in this manner by deceiving it s customers with fake products and its casual racism. Disgusting...
