Why just have Afternoon Tea, when you can have afternoon tea in the clouds?
Off we went back to the Cloud on a sunny but windy day, which made it the perfect day to be sat up high with the sun shining in. On a day like this, what better thing to treat yourself with than a traditional afternoon tea (£25 pp). This topped with the attentive staff (shoutout to Shamila!) made this the perfect afternoon. We’d heard mixed reviews on the service but we didn’t see a problem nor did we hear grumblings from around us, so it’s all good from us.
On to the details of the food, with the savoury corner consisting of different coloured bread (which we loved); Cheese & Pickle (orange) - Now, we love some tangy pickle and we loved it again Goats Cheese Wrap - Fresh goats cheese with avocado mellowing the cheese out. There was this tiniest bit of zing which gave it that hit Smoked salmon & Cream Cheese - The salmon was quite strong and the bread was really soft. For the smoked salmon lovers out there, this is your thang Cucumber & Cream Cheese (purple) - A true classic of refreshing cucumber with a lovely crunch Egg Mayo (yellow) - Another classic done well and not too eggy, so no need to worry about smelly breaths
Over to the sweet corner, there was; Apple Turnover - Sugary, sweet pastry with a hint of apple. So, it’s more a sugary sweet hit and not much apple taste and we’ll tell you that we didn’t mind at all Kiwi & Lemon Tart - A pure, zesty, lemony kick which is proof to its name. This was a mixed review from the two of us where it was too much or it was perfect, so we’ll leave this to you guys to decide. It was lemon mousse with a hint of kiwi, and if this tickles your fancy, you know where to go Chocolate Banana Muffin - Mild banana flavour with a dark chocolate topping. Only one way to describe this, yummy yummy in our tummy Scones (Raisin & Plain) - The plain scones were really soft, but the raisin one was a little hard. We mixed these up and tried clotted cream first and then jam, or jam with clotted cream on top (our usual method) - no difference in taste whatsoever, so who cares!
The afternoon tea at Cloud 23 is perfect for big parties because of the spacious area and even for couples / smaller groups - ok, it’s a good place for anyone who loves an afternoon tea.

Read moreIf you wish to visit here you have to book in advance. The concept is a posh cream tea with a view, the view being the main attraction. There are different packages and so you can have either a traditional cream team or a variant that includes a cocktail or champagne. The cocktails have a variety of different Manchester themes and some are better than others. I tried the non-alcoholic AD 200 and it was basically a dribble of supposedly Salted Caramel liquid in a glass that had been placed over a woody flame. The drink came in a little metal flask and it was tastless and could be drank in one hit. Frankly a waste of time. As part of the price you have a choice of unlimited hot chocolate (Either White or traditional), tea and coffee. I ordered the hot chocolate on several occasions some of both flavour and whilst they were ok (They also came with fresh cream) the taste was not as chocolately or indeed sweet in the case of the normal chocolate. It also took soo long for the first one to arrive that it was cold. This was one of the negative points for us in that the staff were soo busy that the unlimited teas or coffees took way to long to arrive in some cases between 10-20 minutes. This aside, the decor was ok but could do with being refreshed in certain areas as some of the chairs look worn and stained. With the view being one of the main aspects the windows could have done with a bit of a clean as they looked dirty in some of the pictures I took. The food we had was nice, the sandwichs and wraps were tasty, the Turkey wrap in particular was great. The cakes we had were average with the exception of the Chocolate Chips scones which were exceptional and is one of the best scones I have eaten in a while, all that was missing was the cream for it. The toilets in this venue were excellent and actually probably the best toilets I have seen in an eatery, clean and very tidy and even they had a view. The music is a nice throwback to the Manchester clubscene of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.
Overall this is a great concept and the only thing that lets it down is the attention to the detail and execution in certain areas. It is a nice experience but very busy and full of hen parties, baby showers and more and so not really suitable for intimate celebrations. The view is stunning but you are reliant on the weather being good to make...
