Biga is better!

Puns aside, I’m glad I broke my No Carbs before Marbs (or Corfu) rule. Spoiler alert for those of you on Monjuaro this simple dish will be hard going.

Let’s start with the good.

The base is absolutely brilliant. It does not have that tangy sourdough flavour of Rudy’s but acts like a neutral canvas rather than the main attraction. Look at the size and pillowy softness of the cornichone! The dough was strong enough to be eaten by hand, Neapolitan style.

Now, the bits that can be improved on…

I love a specials board and who wants to eat the same ‘ol marinara every time one goes out. Specials are a way to express creativity and celebrate seasonal ingredients.

They had me at hotpot.

Onions and sausages were nice but the gamble with the crisps did not fully pay off. Unlike a crisp sarnie they became soggy rather fast due to steaming hot ingredients below. I think a French style potato topping would have worked better.

Service for lunch was slow, so turnaround worked out to 45 min. Not bad if lunching but not for those with...

The pizza itself was fantastic and clearly deserves its reputation. The dough was light and fluffy, and the topping combinations were both interesting and delicious. Our specific server was also very nice and professional.

However, the fantastic food was overshadowed by the shocking customer service from the moment we arrived. After being told we needed a booking, our quoted 10-minute wait turned into a 30 min one and it was more than a hour from our booking time when we got our food. Whilst we were waiting to be seated, We watched the staff give varied and inconsistent responses to other walk-ins, some were quoted a wait time, others were flatly refused.

While the server was great and the pizza was excellent, the disorganized, inconsistent, and slow service from the front-of-house made for a very...

Went there last week- the WHOLE place was empty, only one small table occupied by a max of 2 people. Came in, the three staff members looked at us as if we were aliens and one of them finally opened their mouth and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't as it wasn't the weekend and clearly the place was EMPTY. We were then told that it was only reservations that day and that they wouldn't find a table for us. Seriously?! I used to work in hospitality and know how reservations work, I know that even though at 09:20 there might be nobody in the unit but all bookings start at 09:30 and people come then but if that really is the case and on this particular day you only accept reservation maybe put up a note on the door? Add something to the website? Pathetic and sooo unprofessional. Definitely not a...

I don’t often give 5 star reviews but I really enjoyed my meal here. Great pizza that is fresh with a huge amount of options. Rotating specials too that infuse the best of Naples with Manchester, it’s a really great blending of cultures. As good, if not better, than any of the other Neapolitan-style pizzas in Manchester, but it stands aside for the quality of the service and how friendly the staff are. They were very welcoming, and took the time to explain the meaning of the restaurant’s name, the history of the dishes and the inspiration behind them. Mattia in particular was a stand out, who did everything he could to make our meal as lovely as possible. I hope they never lose this quality of service as it’s what truly sets them apart. Would definitely return!

We had the Porcini e Tartufo (white base) and the Diavola. The dough was great – soft, airy, and chewy like you’d expect from any decent Neapolitan spot in Manchester. However, the toppings were underwhelming. Both pizzas felt a bit bare – not enough ingredients to balance the dough, which left them feeling a little flat. We also tried the Frittatina Carbonara and Bolognese for starters. At £4 each, the portion was tiny – more like a small croquette than a proper starter. Honestly, I’d prefer Spanish croquettes at that price. Overall, it’s an okay pizza place if you’re already nearby, but not something I’d go out of my way for.
