If the sound of Burgers and Chicken Waffles tickles your fancy, head on to New Yorker Diner Situated on Portland Street, a few steps away from Piccadilly Gardens, New Yorker Diner provides some good old American diner food and is all halal! It has an underground hipster, retro cafe vibe especially considering you’ve gotta go downstairs to get to the diner. They have some really good lunchtime saver offers, so it’s even more of a reason to pop by. On our outing, we filled our tummies with; Bklyn Boy [£7.99] - (or said as Brooklyn Boy :P ) We’re loving combo dishes at the moment because it’s so difficult with the good food out there, so we got ourselves a beef and chicken mash up. The sweet, chilli (Chipotle) mayo gives it that nice spicy kick you know you’re craving and with both the chicken & beef patty cooked the right amount, this is the meal you’re after Badman Burger [£8.49] - Drool alert with double buttermilk chicken fillets and sriracha sauce, because why have one when you can have two. The gherkins add a twang to this dish and we enjoyed this Kickin’ Wingers x5 (Bbq Jerk) [£2.99] - The wings were fried (no batter) and were in such a yummy sauce, quite tangy and sweet. Not a usual flavour we go for and definitely glad we tried it All the burgers can be made into meals for an extra £1.99 (pick a side and drink). Our sides were New Yorker Fries and Creamy Mash. The Fries were good but the mash seemed like a standard boxed mash so if in doubt, go for the fries If only we had space left to eat more because we were so intrigued by the Peanut Buttercup Fries...watch this space! Recommendation Rating: Medium Service: High Price: £ Halal: Full menu

What a disappointment. Tried twice coming for lunch both times the place was closed (during opening hours) how unprofessional! Third time lucky three of us went to have lunch. I was excited and very very hungry! Two of us ordered the beef burgers, one of us ordered the boneless chicken and we got wings for the table - told you we were hungry! Unfortunately the patties were both dry and unimaginative, no depth of flavour, no juicy meat at all. the chicken was not seasoned in any exciting way and the horrible "spicy" sauce smothered all over it lacked any real taste. We managed to eat most of if as we felt bad paying so much and don't like to leave food. Thankfully the milkshake was delightful but hard to go wrong with banana and Nutella blended up! The most annoying thing about this place is the price! £37 for three people to eat fast food which isn't even that tasty! It's all the little extras that add up. I feel that the menu is deliberately designed to charge the customer as much as possible. I don't mind paying for good food. Seriously the quality needs to increase asap! I think I'm going to give this place a try one more time and I'll order the chicken waffle next time but I'm not hopeful. If you want spicy fried chicken there's plenty of cheap establishments that do it better. 99p to make something spicy is a con especially if it just means you add an industrial tasting spicy sauce on top of something.

The place was a little cold but the seats were comfy. I ordered the chicken wings and have to say they tasted amazing. Cruncy with tender meat and a good size wing. I also got the sloppy fries and have to say I was dissapointed. I expected a bigger portion that would make my mouth water. It was a modest portion of fries with basic mince on there. Wouldn't call it spicy and a little dollop of cheese sauce. Service was good and food arrived promptly. Have to say though I felt sorry for the young girl behind the counter. She was working alone and looked very stressed, try to manage orders, wait on customers, clean tables and make the desserts and drinks. Its far too much for one person to do all day, but she didn't get our order wrong. I would come back again..but hopefully there is an improvement in there food and it looks more like the pictures online.

Absolute dissapointment. me and a friend travelled from Bradford to visit this place after seeing amazing looking food on their Instagram we decided to head here. it took us 2 and a half hours to get there because of roadworks so we were famished by the time we got there. We were really looking foward to trying it. When we arrived we had a look at the menu and decided to order a triggerman burger, their signature dirty chicken n waffle, a side of mac n chilli fries and two milkshakes.

We got the receipt and the little buzzer thing and had a seat. We were waiting for it to buzz and after 30 mins there was no sign of the food so I went to the counter and asked one of the girls there how long it would be as it already been 30 mins and she appologised and said theyre really busy and went to check how long it would be. She came back to tell me that they don't have any mac n cheese fries left, I said to her Why has it taken now 35 mins for you to tell me this? She was clearly unable to give me an answer but I didn't push her too much as I know take away graft isnt easy from experience. She then asks if I'd like something else instead I decided to go for the cheey fries. Now the mac n chilli fries were £4.49 which was paid for in the original order and the cheesy fries were £3.25 so id expect a refund of £1.25 yet she charged me for the cheesy fries so i hand her a fiver and she gives me back £6.25 in change and I mean alot of change, i asked what was the point in me giving you the £5 note? It was baffling.

5 mins later my buzzer flashes and vibrates so I give them the buzzer and they hand me the chicken and waffle I tell her that I'm missing the triggerman burger she tells me itll be 2 mins so I pop down the waffle at my table and come back. It took a further 10 mins for the triggerman burger to arrive and that had its fries missing. I went to put the burger on my table and come back for my fries which took another 5 mins to arrive. By the time I had my whole order it had been almost an hour and the chicken was barely warm by then and the waffle was like cardboard. We spent almost £40 between 2 of us and yet we barely ate half the food. The chicken and waffle tasted disgusting because it was cold and my friend only ate half his burger. The only highlight was the old school rap they played in the establishment.

The service is an absolute joke and really lets the whole establishment down. I wasn't the only one waiting so long another lady said she was waiting ages too. They need someone in between the kitchen and the front to expedite orders and actually manage as the kitchen staff just tap the bell when half the order is ready and shout service and expect the girls at the front to run back and forth while doing other jobs.

This place had so much potential I'm the type of guy that would tell every one I know if a place is amazing these guys really let themselves down. I wouldn't return. There are far better places in Manchester if you're coming from out of town like I did dont bother trying new york diner go else where like the food...
