Have to say I'm not usually one for leaving negative reviews in general, but sometimes you have to for things to improve. I booked for myself and 2 friends to go for Sunday Lunch as I had been here before years ago and it used to be amazing.
I read the other reviews online before booking, however I have worked in hospitality and customer service all my life, so I know people have a tendancy to shout it from the rooftops and tell everyone when they've a bad experience but not enough people speak up when they've had a good experience.
Even though I was a bit dubious because of some of the reviews I thought I would still give them the benefit of the doubt and try it for myself and I'm sad to say it, but I have to agree 100% with some of the other not so great reviews.
3 of us ordered at the same time for the same table number however one of us got our food 10 minutes before the other two. The food was cold so I had to send it back to be put in the microwave & even then I had still pretty much finished my food before the others got theirs and it wasn't because it was busy. It was quiet. There was no-one else in eating.
The vegetables were soggy like they had been chopped, frozen and then microwaved, the roast potatoes weren't proper roasties, just peeled and chopped potatoes that had been shoved in the deep fat fryer & the mash was dried up in a lump and not very nice.
Such a shame as this used to be a great place for Sunday lunch going back a few years & I was hoping to find a new local. It was so disappointing for what we paid, especially when you have places like The Banyan Tree and Three Little Words nearby that both do a fantastic Sunday lunch with everything prepared fresh for pretty much...

We stayed at The Oxnoble between Christmas and New Year for one night in a family room. I called earlier in the day to confirm our booking for 2 adults and 1 child, and everything seemed in order. However, upon checking in around 4pm, we noticed the sofa bed hadn't been set up. When we approached the bar to inquire, we were told it was our responsibility to set it up ourselves, and the bedding was supposedly in the cupboard. When we couldn't find it, we returned to the bar, and a different staff member apologised and promised to bring it up in about 15 minutes. He explained that many housekeepers had time off for Christmas, and it had simply been missed.
The family room itself was okay, but had a strange layout with a small hallway and two separate rooms. There was also a musty smell in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, though, and overall the room was decent.
We were told breakfast was served from 7:30am to 12:00pm, so we came down at around 09:10 the next day, only to be informed that the chef wouldn’t be in for another 20 minutes. While it wasn’t a major issue for us since we weren't in a rush, we did wonder how guests arriving at 7:30am might feel. Staff seemed disinterested and unbothered, which was disappointing. When breakfast finally arrived, it was fine in terms of taste, though nothing special.
Overall, our stay had its ups and downs. While the room was comfortable, the service left a lot to be desired. It seems like the hotel struggles with adequate staffing, especially during busy times...
Read moreHad an overnight break in Manchester. Booked The Oxnoble because it seemed to have relatively good reviews at a glance. Dissapointing is abit of an understatement given the price point and in comparison to other places we have stayed within the same price range.
To start with, the room looked really tired. Stank of smoke which was really off putting. Staff didnt show you to the room just gave us a key and sent us on our way. We were met with broken door handles, extractor fan to bathroom didn't work, wobbly toilet seat, shower barely fixed to the wall, blocked sink. Door threshold not fixed down, major trip hazard. Really weird poster fixed to the wall on a tatty piece of plywood - bit random -totally out of place.
We booked a double and got 2 singles which wasn't a major issue. However, when we got back to the room after dinner the TV didn't work - the ariel cable at the back was broken and had no channels tuned in which was really frustrating. Added to this the WiFi was rubbish and couldn't connect - so no Netflix or other streaming services!
We were worried about breakfast given the bad reviews. It was mediocre at best. Dirty tables that hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Everything just looked tired and a bit grim. Ordered breakfast at the bar, as no cereal, juices, tea or coffee were laid out for guests. Ordered a latte and the coffee machine was broken.
Really poor when compared with what else is out there! Big dissapointment I'm afraid. Great location but leaves alot...
