So this place gets 2 stars for quick and slightly edible food.
But it loses 3 stars because of the quality and the staff/owner.
As soon as we walked in, we were sat down and we couldn't even look at the menu, the owner was in our faces telling us what to order. We had drove all the way from Birmingham to order our own food, not be told what to order.
There's a difference to recommending food and telling someone to order something.
That wasn't the worst part, he then told the waiter what food to give me and my wife. He basically ordered for us. Not knowing about any allergies or our budget.
You can't order food for someone, my wife wanted starters but the owner had already ordered for us and sent the bill to the kitchen. My wife did want starters but he didn't give her that option.
The "world famous ribs" he claimed to have weren't the best, I've had ribs better than that in other places, but I had to have it because it was ordered for me.
2 pieces of ribs, in "bbq" sauce. Couldn't taste the bbq, and fair enough it was a thick peice of meat, but other places they would give you a few more that actually taste of bbq.
My steak wasn't the best, presentation was good but that's it, chips seemed like they were from Aldi and steak wasn't as flavourful.
At the end, we asked for the bill, it was more than we expected, but obviously they did that on purpose as they picked our food for us. We didn't get a say. They decided to add a service charge! For what? It's like they wanted us to pay them for ordering our food for us. We told the waiter we didn't want to pay to pay it, so he went away and removed it from the bill.
As we were leaving the owner opened the door for us, not saying a word, and we were wondering was it because we asked to remove the service charge?
It wasn't worth driving all the way from Birmingham to go there. We have a place in Birmingham with similar food that's better in quality and better in price.
Note to management, don't order food for people, to pressure them. Yes you can recommend, but let the...
Read moreA place I have confidently previously advertised as one of the best steaks in the UK. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
The new location for Rump and Ribs (since the last time I’ve visited anyway) still has the natural brick, wood, and dark leather rustic aesthetic that was prevalent in the original. It it reminiscent of an American steakhouse and prepares you for the red meat bouquet you’re about to receive.
Walking in we were shouted at with a gloomy “Ya got a reservation?” To which I responded “Good evening sir” to remind ,what presumably was the owner, that he may be surrounded by pieces of meat but I wasn’t one of them.
We were seated in a claustrophobic restaurant amidst the rowdy air conditioning and patrons and felt like we were in economy class on an overcrowded flight with something terribly wrong with the engines. Relaxing your arms on the tables felt like a visit to the beautician with the sticky adhesive-like residue on the tables tugging at your forearm hair. Mental note to use the hand sanitizer up to my elbows regardless of who is staring.
The prawn starter was chewy, bland, and tastes what I imagined MRE meals astronauts have to rehydrate when their rations are running low.
The medium ribeye I drove 3 hours to eat was tender, well seared but was medium-rare (I know I know, I still prefer medium), and had clearly not been seasoned. It required submersion in salt and luckily the mushroom sauce (which was beautiful) was there to save it. Chips were spot on though! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, divine. The caramelised onions were unbelievable and complimented the steak perfectly.
The lemon cheesecake with passion fruit compote was creamy, not overly sweet, and was let down ever so slightly by the base which was too dense. A solid B minus.
Nearly £70 all in all (starter, 2 steaks, 2 drinks, dessert) with a mandatory 10% service charge. The service was quick no doubt, clumsy at times, but quick. This new location for rump and ribs unfortunately a shadow of its once near...
Read moreWe’ve just celebrated my son’s birthday dinner at RnR Mcr – and what an experience! The ribs were absolutely sensational. Forget the competition – if you’re after delicious, moreish, and succulent ribs, this is the place. On the recommendation of our wonderful host, Asif Sahib, we doubled up on the ribs – and it was well worth it.
My wife opted for the fillet, which was beautifully cooked and presented. The children thoroughly enjoyed the chef’s sharing platter, which delivered on both flavour and variety. While the food was excellent, it was the warm and engaging service from Asif Sahib that truly elevated the evening. He brought personality and attentiveness to the table, making the meal feel like much more than just a dinner.
To top it all off, my son was surprised with a birthday cake and a raucous rendition of Happy Birthday – all without any prior notice. Asif Sahib’s ability to anticipate our every need was executed with genuine care, skill, and panache.
I used to be a die-hard Ribeye fan – until the appalling experience we had there on my wife’s birthday. Alhamdulillah, I can now say with confidence: Daddy’s still got it – and Ribeye has officially been dethroned. RnR Mcr is the new go-to. Let Asif treat you like family and trust the kitchen to look after the rest.
I regret taking nearly a decade to visit this OG, which I’d been eyeing up since my time in the Middle East. Don’t make the same mistake – make the trip, and you’ll be...
