Wolf down some small plates at Wolf at the Door
On a corner in Northern Quarter, Wolf at the Door has a cool northern quarter vibe, with a cool and lively atmosphere. Have a relaxing conversation or a sit-down boogie - whatever you fancy. Have yourself food or grab a drink or both - plenty for everyone. What we will say is that you should be prepared to get your hands messy.
The food in our bellies included; \Loaded Fries [£3.50] - Mmmm spicy and oh, so tasty. With the gooey cheese, you just want to tuck in straight away and that is exactly what we did. Really good value and a highly recommended snack from us \Cauliflower Shwarma Tacos (ve) [£2] - Really good tangy flavours and cooked to perfection (as was everything we ate). It’s called a shwarma but had more of a chaat vibe with the sauce \Hoisin Mushroom Taco (ve) [£4] - Strong hoisin taste but not overpowering. The mushrooms were nice and almost meaty in its texture \Pina Colada Prawns [£4] - One of us loved it but one of us wasn’t sure about the pineapple coconut combination in a taco. It was a perfectly, crispy prawn with interesting flavours, so the adventurous pineapple lovers may want to give this a try \Aubergine & Kimchi Bao (ve) [£2] - Such a random combo, but we couldn’t resist trying it out. It wasn’t what we were expecting but we weren’t disappointed. It was a battered fried piece of aubergine with kimchi slaw and a spicy sauce. If you like a bit of pickle, you’re going to enjoy this one
The loaded fries are good enough for us to go back, and back we shall go

Been here several time over the years and always enjoyed the vibe and food until the confusion on our recent experience. During the evening the pints price changed for me from £6.60 to £6.93 and for my friend £5.60 to £5.88. At first we thought there was a happy hour deal we may have got lucky with, (it does not have drink price next to the draught pumps) but then as it went on I queried the changing price with the bar staff. Apparently the occasional increase was due to some staff members adding a 5% service charge to the bill when paying for a pint (that you physically ordered from the bar). I asked why this was and apparently it was due to putting the order on a table number, even though you do not provide a table number at the bar. I asked why some bar staff did this and why some hadn't that evening and the staff member could not answer. I also asked why a sign was not up next to the bar saying a 5% charge was put on when ordering pints, once again no explanation offered, although they said that it states it on the menu 5% charge added to every order . Although for me, not everyone checks a menu on arrival ordering a drink, and reviewing the menu after, this was said underneath 'everyone must order a drink. With food' suggesting this applied to food orders. Liked the place but this to me gave rip off merchant vibes by not stating you literally were being charged 5% more simply to pay for a drink at the bar?!! Will not return for...
Read moreFeb 2020 update: No longer the same menu - now serves tacos and bao - no gluten free options. A real shame as this was a favourite and if they brought the old menu back I'd give back the stars :(
2019: Absolutely stunning food and exceptional service. The staff are warm and helpful, and the food is out of this world. It's a very cosy, twinkly restaurant & bar, bristling with foliage and with a modern, high-end feel that is chic and homey rather than imposing. The wine list is wonderful and the beers extensive. There is a mix of intimate and long table seating and the food is served in a small plate format. I can't recommend the fermented potatoes or the cabbage enough - and I'm a staunch carnivore! Upstairs is a fab cocktail bar where you feel part of the process, the bar removed and instead an ice trough with a server to help you make your perfect tipple. What I really appreciated was the detail. Our first visit I received my own menu with crossed out items (I am a coeliac) and the next time we went, a whole new gluten free menu had been created - a couple of happy tears nearly leaked out from this afflicted foodie! We have been twice in two weeks now and I can't wait to go...
