Coeliacs beware! (and other food allergen sufferers) I have eaten in/ordered takeaway from Prima on 6 occasions now the last time being over a year ago. Twice when ordering takeaway I have inadvertently been given gluten containing dishes when ordering gluten free options. Both times I contacted the restaurant and was given apologies and explanations by the management team that this was problem with delivery drivers collecting the orders and they would look into and strengthen their procedures around labelling. Both times I dined in as reimbursement and had lovely and problem-free experiences. This evening I chose to order takeaway as my usual go to pizzeria was unavailable. The food arrived with an order ticket clearly stating gluten free but with no other obvious signs or labels on the box. The pizza was delicious but now hours later I realise that yet again I have been given a gluten containing meal (all other meals I have had today have been home made). Despite the food always been delicious, a 50/50 chance of being poisoned is too high a risk for me to continue ordering from here. As annoying and unpleasant it is to be writing this review at 4am in the bathroom I am seriously concerned for those allergen suffers who could have far more serious reactions to their food allergies!

We're not from the area, so we always Google places to eat. I chose Italian for our Saturday night meal choice. The restaurant was a 20-minute walk from our hotel, and it caught our eye when passing it on Friday. It looked so inviting from the outside, and the menu outside tickled my taste buds! My fella booked it online, and the confirmation was sent back straight away! These people are on the ball! We arrived on a cold and chilly night at 19.25, seated straight away and the place was busy, loads of staff waiting on, working the bar and kitchen. We were made to feel welcome straight away! The service was amazing, I think we were seen to by 6 different people! We ordered 3 starters and a main each, and my goodness, the food was totally amazing! Portion sizes were great. I don't do starters and mains normally, but sharing was the way forward. Withing 55 minutes we had had started and main courses. We didn't feel rushed or feel they needed our table. When I visited the toilet upstairs, I noticed how big the restaurant was downstairs, plus a huge restaurant upstairs too! The kitchen was all open plan so you could see the chefs all cooking away! I was a little chilly, but that could be the time of year and the fact I'm getting over a cold. Hight recommended 👌

The restaurant are persistently using a noisy polluting generator (unsafely wedged in the alleyway where Pizza Express used to be), and their bins are always on the street often overflowing with broken glass surrounding as a result. I visit the Quayside regularly and it's been like this for weeks now. A disgusting disgrace to the area and total disregard for the community. Used to eat at Prima regularly but not anymore, their prices are now through the roof too with tips seemingly not being fairly distributed amongst staff. A real shame. I hope they clean up their act, literally! REPLY TO PRIMA'S POOR RESPONSE: I am not a former employee, I have ate regularly at Prima over the years and visit the Quayside regularly for work, walks and jogs. I've included a few photos of their recent disgusting state of their bins showing total disregard for the area the past few weeks.

Horrendous from start to finish..£25 per head for the christmas menu and 10 of us booked in for our works do, our table was Booked for 8.30 ..drinks were taking some time to get to table after ordering so we had to remind the waitress we hadn't had them yet. By 9.10 we still had no starters..drinks started to arrive but 2 were the wrong drinks...starters arrived minus some of the ingredients we thought we were getting as stated on the menu... at 9.45 we still had no main course and again drinks were forgotten...the meal finally came after again having to complain about the fact it was 10.10 and we were waiting for roast chicken breast and salmon dishes to come out..I personally wouldnt dream of eating heavy meals this late...hence out table booking being for 8.30. The table wasnt festive the salt grinder was broken as was the pepper mill the battery operated lit mini tree table decoration was broken..and it was so cold no radiators on at all. We were seated upstairs it was a very sad affair with a few badly strung lights here and there. We were so dissapointed with the experience considering like everyone else we had not been able to celebrate the year previous and had been looking forward to our staff christmas night out, I hasten to add we had to ask for a discount on the bill due to the poor service and quality of the meal although they apologised for this, no mention of a deduction was offered to us we had to ask, the staff seemed stressed and in my opinion had lost all control of the situation. I would have expected the manager to at least come out to apologise and explain circumstance,s as to why we had such bad service ,but he did not which surprises me greatly. I have visited prima on 3 other occasions but never have I ever recieved poor service or food of this standard and for all the reasons above will...

Superb last night in Prima.

Visited with my girlfriend after she recommended I come and try the Salmone (used to get it in Ponteland and I think the same family own/used to own both restaurants...) - basically my favourite pasta and only a few restaurants can make it properly...

Upon arrival the lady with the blonde hair (didn't catch her name), despite it being really busy, kindly asked us to have a drink at the bar whilst a table became free - it might seem basic, but a lot of restaurants get this wrong and say "we're full" or just leave you standing around.

We were then seen to our table, and another young lady (didn't catch her name but blonde hair and really friendly) was chatty, and friendly. Service was quick, we felt welcome, and then another lady (sorry, no name but dark hair and quite tall) took everything away at the end and was also friendly and chatty....

The food was brilliant. Hot, fresh, good portions, and the Salmone was 10/10.

It might seem over the top, but it's very rare restaurants get everything right like this...but Prima on this occasion absolutely did, despite the restaurant being at full capacity everyone was serving customers quickly, chatting to them, and the empty plates around us suggest others enjoyed their food too.

100% will be back soon, and credit to the team for delivering quality service during such a busy period (it's service like this that makes you really not think twice about the added...

Disgraceful! I was running GNR the morning after and wanted a good meal to set the time. We arrived early for our 7pm o’clock table, queued in a busy narrow entry area for 10mins only to be ushered into a hot, claustrophobic and dingy corner to wait further. At 7.20pm with not even a glass of tap water offered and being shunned for other guests I challenged the woman aimlessly flouncing around seating people only to be told it’s their busiest night of the year and it won’t be long!! At 7.30pm my four month pregnant wife and I were taken to a half empty room on the third floor which was like a sauna! A drinks order of 2 lemonade and table water was taken and 15mins later a waitress entered the room with 2 2ltr bottles of lemonade and a bag of ice - our drinks soon arrived and food order taken. The room filled, orders were taken but no food was arriving?! 30mins later the room were offered a free round of drinks as the kitchen had gone into meltdown with number of orders but no timescale given. A young girl began to cry as she was so hungry and my pregnant wife began to wain. Food began arriving but was promptly being returned to the kitchen! We waited until 9.15pm when after no time could be given for food we had no choice but to leave! Embarrassed and emotional serving staff apologetic- thrown to the wolves by greedy managers!! Prima has been a go to place for us for several years, NEVER...
