EDITED (following reply from the venue) Went in after the game - jumper completely over the top of the newcastle shirt. Got told "that's life" at 7pm whilst looking for a table and because I wore it underneath - will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place - four bouncers wanting to make a point ruining what is a great venue.
Avoid - plenty more places in Newcastle
EDIT: To clarify on the passive aggressive remark on dress code - I was wearing black barbour shoes, black jeans and a black jumper which does not violate the dress code on your website. If this is somehow not acceptable for an Autumn evening in Newcastle City Centre please do confirm.
I understand that you may want a particular dress code in place however to discuss or ask about what anyone is wearing underneath any layer of clothing that is visible to see is inappropriate in any setting and in any venue.
It's not asking a lot to be shown a basic level of respect and you'll get this at plenty other cocktail bars in Newcastle without needing to reveal the details of what your wearing which isn't visible to creepy staff.
A shame because this is a stark contrast to the very friendly staff inside who have served us in prior visits. Was looking forward to a good catch up in here, unfortunately won't be back - good luck with that business model and defending such behaviour though.
Muchas Gracias
Edit*2 I would like to point those reading this and deciding where to go in Newcastle to the final paragraph of the owner's reply here. They "applaud" the behaviour of checking what undergarments you are wearing and believe this is acceptable behaviour. Utterly staggering comment - hopefully vulnerable groups particularly women in smaller numbers see this and choose to go elsewhere - because this venue clearly welcomes the door team examining if you are wearing a sports bra or not.
The fear they also have of men taking off their tops/jumpers during a meal is also very bizarre- if this is the kind of conduct from patrons they encounter recently then I'm glad we ended up elsewhere.
Very odd dialogue that raises a lot of red flags. I recommend just avoiding this kind of drama and giving this place a miss - Newcastle has so much...
Read moreDO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE THE BOOKING FACILITY FOR THIS CHAIN! I booked for a party of 6 for Saturday 14th August along with my son-in-law who booked for a party of 2 to make our complete family booking of 8 happen, however, upon arrival (which will be verified by CCTV, we were advised that we were unable to get into the venue because of their dress code ( one of our party had smart dress tailored shorts on with a shirt) so obviously whilst we weren’t happy about this we abided by their rules, ( it’s worthy to note at this point ( all females in the party had dresses on and the Males jeans/shirts/t-shirts, we are not young kids I’m 55, my husband 61 and are all respectable dressers!) we mentioned to the door staff that we’d booked and we had better not be charged a DNA fee as we were clearly being turned away and had turned up for the said booking, he said to wait a few minutes and he’d step into the venue to make sure management were made aware and our booking would cancelled by them and no fee would be made. The larger of the two door staff on duty was very intimidating towards myself and rude, I did fear for my safety at one point with his rather threatening conduct towards me. He couldn’t have been in the building more than 60 seconds and returned back to say we wouldn’t be charged and all was good Well well well, low and behold I then received an email later on in the evening from them to say I’d be charged £60 as a DNA fee, despite the fact the rude door staff advised otherwise! We as a family will now pursuing this further via our family solicitor, for all the disgraceful actions conducted and lies told by this company, as they have also advised my son-in-law he will also be charged a DNA fee too! I would not recommend this place to visit A: because you thoroughly need to check their dress code, as if they don’t like the look of you they’ll turn you away B: they’ll charge you for the privilege of turning you away, so clearly some sort of money making scam is going on within this company AVOID AT ALL COSTS PEOPLE, you have...

Concerns: 1/. Got my name wrong
2/. When you eat there we must be on camera and time our meal.
3/. At least this is big brother in action! Why would we go to an evening out and be timed by video?
4/. The cameras must be poor as I only ate 2/3 of the chicken due to stringy
4/. No real apology, just continual “ excuses”
Good morning Kevin,
Thanks for the feedback. Apologies that you didn’t feel that your service was the slickest on Saturday.
Logistically the pre-purchased vouchers have to be registered online by us in advance. For some reason I can see that this wasn’t the case and that our Sales Executive, Ella, attached this to your reservation at 18:34, just a minute or two after you were seated. This isn’t a function that our dining room team are trained in, hence the necessity to seek support in resolving this.
I’m very sorry about the meatballs, this should never happen as our kitchen team are frequently very diligent when using temperature probes to ensure food is served piping hot. Our spicy fried chicken tapas dish is made with chicken thigh fresh in house so this could be considered stringier than chicken breast if this was the expectation for the dish. It does appear from CCTV that this was fully eaten. We do serve our tapas as ‘serve when ready’ akin to how it would be served in Latin countries. It does appear that we served your second round of dishes twelve minutes after your first round which despite not being twenty minutes, is still not where we would want to be, apologies.
We’ll definitely feed this back to our Kitchen Manager to resolve these issues going forward.
Kind regards
Tim...
