Went on evening so paid higher price.
The salad bar is basic, even has pork scratchings, everything is kind of salty or covered in rosemary. The quinoa and other mixed salads were full of dry herb stalks. But we didn't pay all that money for salad!
The meat is poor quality and so ridiculously salty it was mostly inedible, I would argue about the type of cuts they claim the meat is, I've never in my life had stringy fillet steak before eating here. The first rump did taste like rump, after that the rump had no flavour, only saltiness. The ribeye came around once and was not rib eye, zero flavour, no marbling, looked and had the texture of silverside, but very salty. The sirloin came round eventually after I had asked for it, only twice in the whole night though, the first one, cut thin as ham, but tasted ok, just too salty, the second one was an outside cut, covered in salt and inedible. The beef skirt was so salty I had to spit it onto my plate, disgusting!
They were really slow to come around with the meat, considering how small and thin the pieces they give you are. There website gives the impression that people are around all night with these big skewers of meat cutting you steaks off them, this is not true, ometimes i didn't see anyone for 10 minutes, and the meat on the squewers looked like scraps, it felt like it when you got 1 small thin piece, smaller than a patty in a happy meal kids burger.
They did come round several times with chicken wings and chicken hearts and once with belly pork and we even saw suasages, though we were never offered any of those.
Overall, we were really disappointed, it sounded and looked good, but wasnt, just not worth money, far better places to eat. I will never eat there again.
I can only think the other reviews are false or we were really really unlucky, my expectations were not that high, i just wanted edible food and to leave full from somewhere we paid £35 each for a meal.
Watch out for them trying to sneak a 10% service charge on the bill, without telling you! I normally tip, but the food and service was so slow and poor quality, I felt I had paid more...
Read moreI would have to say upon entering Rio Jesmond, from the initial greeting & pleasant décor straight from the off I knew this was going to be a positively curious & exciting dining experience.... We were slightly early, so shown to the upstairs bar waiting area. However, no sooner had we ordered our drinks than our early arrival had been accommodated with a table being made ready & drinks delivered to it. The unique dining experience was briefly & clearly explained to us by our professionally friendly server, as was the same for all the staff at Rio Jesmond. So we embarked on our Brazilian Steakhouse culinary journey: The salad bar - amazing, all visibly fresh & tasty with a great selection of choice including some offerings that you wouldn't normally be given, this was not your average salad bar! The service - amazing, as eluded to above. The drinks selection - great selection with something for most preferences, including a couple draft larger's that you don't often see. Okay, okay, yeah the main event.... the reason for being there in the first place... The food - amazing, and I'm not going to spoil that first experience for you, so to understand what I mean by frequently referring to Rio Jesmond as amazing, you're just going to have to go & see for yourself 😉
Oh the bill I suppose is important, honestly I'm neither frugal nor lavish, but the bill really only figures in my review as an afterthought such was our experience: £231 for four - including service charge, with three round of drinks each (gin / larger) & 1 desert..... ....and yes, that was...
Read moreWe booked Rio Steakhouse for my sisters birthday meal, 6 of us in total. From the moment we arrived the service was very poor, they had given our table to someone else, when we did eventually get seated it took around half an hour for someone to take a drinks order. When our food (sides) finally arrived there was an incident involving the small metal sauce pot (peppercorn sauce) on a plate being handed over the table by a member of staff to my husband, of which it slid straight off the plate onto his shirt, all over his jeans and then it splattered all over my friends jeans too. The staff offered napkins to help clear up but nothing more. We then had to cut our evening short as my husband was feeling very uncomfortable in public with peppercorn sauce all over him. When the bill arrived we were charged full price for everything, the incident had not even been acknowledged by offering him a free drink. As we paid the bill the waitress asked how our meal had been to which I responded it was fine apart from incident, I simply said to the waitress that I don't believe it we her fault what happened nor was it my husbands but it would have been appreciated if the incident had been acknowledged in some way. She then very defensively said she will get her manager, the manager came over and took full payment from us all, she clearly said that it was not her waitresses fault and that "allegedly it was how he took the plate". Absolutely shocking service, not even an apology! Would never go back here nor would I recommend...
