From the moment we stepped into Sobremesa in Heaton on Saturday night, the pace felt just right. Each course arrived with beautifully relaxed timing, not rushed, not sluggish, but perfectly in rhythm with an unhurried evening of enjoyment. It only enhanced the experience, allowing time to savour each bite and sip without ever feeling hurried or waiting for too long.

The food itself? Utterly delightful. Each plate carried a quiet elegance, you could taste the care and precision in every flavour. The tapas were fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully composed, offering that authentic Spanish comfort we did not realise we had been craving.

Even more memorable was the warmth of the hospitality. Our waitress was wonderfully attentive, gracious and accommodating, striking that sweet spot between being there when needed and letting the moment breathe. But what stood out most was the owner and chef. He made the place feel like a home, stopping by our table with a genuine smile, offering little stories behind the dishes, and ensuring every guest felt seen and welcomed. It was not just service, it was generosity of spirit.

Wow....what a great place! It is absolutely tiny ...room for 1 table for four in the middle of the room then chairs round the side. We arrived just after opening on a Saturday afternoon to be greeted by the owner who gave me a sample glass of wine before we even sat down! I am a wine enthusiast so was delighted to meet a fellow oenophile!
