Myself and children ate here for breakfast whilst visiting Ilfracombe. I think the only reason this place ever gets custom is that it's one of the first cafés you come across when walking into Ilfracombe. My god what a mistake. Its an open kitchen so you can see the staff cooking/preparing the food and usually this would be reassuring but seeing multiple flies landing in the butter that was then going to be used for our toast was rather off-putting. Then we got our breakfasts and honestly it was disgusting. The sausages are the very cheapest of cheap variety that are just mush. The bacon was rock hard and inedible. Just really cheap horrible food. But when reading the menu it says locally sourced and the 'best sausages. Upon leaving I noticed all the food they were using was from Lidl, hardly locally sourced. The only thing local about that is that Lidl is just round the corner from there ! Horrible breakfast and very poor sanitation with flies in abundance ! If only I'd have remembered that there's a spoons 1 minute further up in the road. I'm all for spending money at independent places but not when they are serving sub standard food for high prices, hence spoons would have been better. Would not...
Read moreWe were in desperate need of a hot drink after a rather wet and windy hike and unfortunately the other places we had planned to visit in Ilfracombe were closed, but Dolly's saved the day!
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and quick to take our order. 2 X Devon Cream Teas appeared very quickly, and they were exactly what we needed to warm us up. It was good value for money for what we paid too. Dolly's absolutely salvaged what might otherwise have been a somewhat disappointing visit to Ilfracombe.
It was a bit of a miserable afternoon in the quiet season so there weren't many customers, but I can imagine it would be very busy on a nicer day during the main season. They also had cute, vintage Rupert the Bear art on the menus and in the WCs. Not sure what the link was but it was a sweet little throwback to our childhood. ☺️
Thanks again to all the staff at Dolly's for making us feel welcome and...
Read moreWe live locally in Barnstaple and took dad to Ilfracombe for a few hours to see the sea on his 90th birthday today. He's not usually comfortable to eat out but after 2hrs in the sun and the sea breeze he was ready for a drink and sustenance before heading home.
Dollys looked inviting and accessible for dad's mobility scooter which he was able to drive into the cafe. We received a warm welcome from all the staff. I had a delicious crab sarni on very fresh brown bread. Hubby had a yummy lasagne with chips and dad just wanted chips which he said were 'the best chips ever'.
As we were leaving the lovely waitress said they wanted to give dad a slice of cake to take home and asked which cake he would like 'on the house'. Such a lovely gesture which really made dad's day. We've got no hesitation in recommending Dollys for tasty food, a warm welcome and great service....
