I rang to book my family in and spoke to George, who was instantly enthused and friendly. Due to the time only being 4pm, George advised we could head down right away on a first come first serve basis, as many of their reservations were made for after 5pm. As we were ready to eat and staying 10 minutes away at Mullacott Park, we decided to heed George’s advice.
When we arrived, we were greeted by Alex, who looked after us for the duration of our visit. He found us a table for 6 fairly quickly despite the restaurant being quite busy.
Once settled, I tried to place our order using the web service via the QR code. This was a smooth process until I noticed pizza was not showing on the menu. Luckily, by the time I realised this, Alex had returned to take our order the old fashioned way, so no big deal, but I would advise you look into fixing this for the future.
Drinks arrived promptly; great choice btw, especially ales. Food choices were also good, with plenty of what you’d expect. My wife and I are vegetarian and were not limited to the standard choices most places offer.
Food quality was perfectly acceptable; the pizzas were pretty standard, nothing to rave about but tasty enough. My sweet potato and chickpea curry was good, although I did miss having a naan bread with it. The loaded fries were huge and shared around the table, and the veggie starters were fine. Alex also very thoughtfully brought our dog some water.
Atmosphere was good; bar is going for the surfer aesthetic with plenty of interesting memorabilia displayed on the walls, including some charming photos of the bar from past decades. Music choice was jolly and balanced, resulting in my girls singing along.
Price-wise, higher than normal but then again it’s a coastal town catering for tourists, so pretty standard.
Best of all, once we left and crossed the road to the car park, Alex came running out to return my son’s headphones, which he left on his seat; top service right there.
Would definitely go back for a...
Read moreI went on a Sunday lunchtime and it was busy. Pros: Location Seats are plenty Dog and child friendly Toilets were clean Tables were clean, the person on the floor kept ontop of the tables in a busy lunch service Roasts, they were pretty good (gravy was added to the food not separated)
Cons: It's a bit crammed which results in a lot of people pushing past you, to get by - if you can sit in a corner. Children, if you are a person wanting to not listen to children videos blasting from parents mobile phones or screaming Music was quite loud, music was nice but loud (I would avoid if you have a auditory processing disorder).
Queue system was a painfully slow. There was a food section and a drink section which is good if you just want a drink and not wait around for a large order of food from a group who do not know their table number or what they want to eat. The issue is, that hot drinks are also made from the food section and there was only one person on till and drinks. This slowed down the ordering process. I expect this was a low staffing, as the staff that were working were all working to a maximum efficiency.
Food was expected to take 50mins, but we found our food arrived before then.
Lunch stopped ordering around 1415 and...
Read moreWe visited on the second weekend of the summer holiday season and wow—it was BUSY! When we ordered, we were kindly informed that the kitchen was a chef down and food would take about an hour.
Honestly, with drinks in hand and a gorgeous view, we didn’t mind the wait at all. And when the food arrived? It was piping hot and absolutely delicious—10/10!
What truly made the evening unforgettable was the incredible staff. (Please forgive the nicknames— I mean them with love!)
✨ The stunning lady with the two long black pigtails greeted us so warmly and helped us find a table. What a welcome!
💖 Bella (we think that’s your name!) with the lovely pink hair clip was hands-down the kindest person ever. An absolute credit to The Barn!
👑 Throughout the night, we were looked after by the amazing manager, King Ken, the queen with the beautiful starry eye makeup, and the gorgeous model with the ponytail and sunglasses. Every single one of them made us feel so cared for.
Sometimes delays are unavoidable, but our experience at The Barn proves that kindness, transparency, and great service can make all the difference. Thank you for a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting—we’ll...
