Classic pub. I drink here regularly. The staff and customers are friendly and welcoming. It’s the kind of pub where you can easily engage in conversation with people or just enjoy your own company.

You can sit outside all year but it’s summer when outside is really busy. There are two bars both comfortable and spacious with ample table space. It gets busy with food in the early evening but food is served from early afternoon until 19.00hrs with a great varied menu and a specials board showing soups, mains and desserts.

The variety of beers is very good with the selection changed regularly - the beers are kept well and the staff are happy to make recommendations. All in all an atmospheric pub that is well...

Currently my local boozer but has always been a favourite regardless of where I have lived. A good range of ales and beers including ales from the Chalk Hill brewery (CHB, Tap & Gold) which are my undoubted favourite. I love the bar snacks (pork pie & pickles) so can assume it is a safe bet for a tasty meal. The clientèle is a great mix of young and old. The place is crammed full of interesting objects including many maritime objects collected by the landlord Tiny (who rowed across the Atlantic). It has darts, pool and other classic pub games which insures a lively hum.

Many newer pubs try to create the feel of a British pub and ends up an obvious fake. This place is honest and as good a pub as...

This was introduced to me in Norwich by my friend I was treating asa Christmas gift meal. Good wholesome quality restaurant food cooked in a old traditional pub. Tasty hot and healthy served with garlic or just fresh crusy bread. I had beef bogionne and veg. Large cuts off beef in a beautiful red wine sauce.mmmm! I loved what friend was eating chilli I am definitely having that next time and all under £9.00 what value! No mean portions either . Just the place for a romantic meal , out eith your friends or after or before the theatre, cinima. The Alex is full of character, warmth and friendly folk. You will receive a warm welcome and a lovely log fire. Worth a look in....
