Ate at Anoki a couple of weeks back for the first time. We've eaten takeaway from the restaurant a few times in the past, and it's been pretty good — the mirch masala chicken was delicious — and it was worth the higher than average price.
The service at the restaurant was decent enough; we were greeted promptly, shown to our table and provided with poppadoms and sundries while we browsed the menus. This was where things went wrong for me — the price of the food in some cases was DOUBLE that of the takeaway, with the mirch masala curry an eye-watering £19.95. We had already started munching away on the poppadoms at that point, so we were pretty locked in. When we enquired about the price after the meal, we were told it reflects the cost of service (dubious, as we were billed a service fee), plates (they were all chipped...) and environment (smelt stale, and looked like a low-budget Alladin pantomime set). Not impressed, and if it wasn't for the eat out to help out discount, I'd have been more vocal about the price differences.
The food itself was a mixed bag. The poppadoms were as expected, but the accompaniments were disappointing; they didn't taste particularly fresh, and I suspect they hadn't been prepared that day. The lamb cutlets were tasty, but the side salad on the plate looked aged, the leaves wilted and brown. The mirch mirch masala curry was just as tasty as the takeaway version, but there was less of it (twice the price for less, great!). The ochra was slimy, mushy and lacked flavour, but to be fair, I've never had ochra before so maybe that's just what ochra is like!
Overall, I find it hard to recommend Anoki as a place to eat. It brands itself as Indian fine dining, but there's more to being a fine dining restaurant than charging high prices. The various tacky marketing schemes — loyalty cards, apps, parking deals — also undermine any sense of fine dining. I might order takeaway from them again, though, once the feeling of being...
Read moreI'm actually kinda surprised with this place. With being from a pakistani background the food was cooked to the perfection standards of indian food native to Punjab (well atleast my dish was). So let go into the story of it all. Location is a bit out of range of the city centre but is no mile hike. Waiters and waitresses were on the quite side but when approached were really friendly and catered to all needs. the presentation of the restaurant overall was amazing and very neat but a recommendation is to brighten the place with more lighting but hey its only a suggestion. Know for the real reason I'm reviewing this place, THE FOOD!
what can i say On the house, dips and poppadoms which was great and the mango chutney is normally sweet and sickly but here it had a kick to it which i thoroughly enjoyed, at the same time I'm not the greatest fan of tamarind but the sauce however was to die for. (Tip: mix it with mint chutney, it compliments each other). For the main because I'm not much of a starter fan, i ordered a tandoori chicken with bombay aloo (potatoes). And like good 'ol' Anil Kapoor says it was jhakaas. Cooked to perfection. I did have a problem with the potatoes as i am aware of they should be soft throughout and instead they were hard in the centre and soft on the outside but edible and tasty as it is the spices that makes it taste nice not the texture. Before i knew it i was full up (portion size is HUGE). Then came along our waitress who tipped us about free desserts via Facebook, like come on how can you fault such a woman on her service. And overall in the end a well deserved 4/5 from me.
Thank You Anoki nottingham Hope to see...
Read moreI do not understand how this place is considered the best Indian restaurant in Nottingham. I was absolutely appalled by every aspect of this place.
1- The service was absolutely shocking. I was waiting with my hungry family for 1 hour 30 minutes before we saw our main course.
2- Perhaps the terrible service could be forgiven if the food was as good as promised. However this was not the case with all three of our main dishes absolutely flavourless, unacceptably small, and with chilly clearly being used to cover up the lack of any substance in the food.
3- If the poor service and awful food was not enough, when a complaint was made about the food, to the man apparently in charge of this shambles, he came across incredibly rude, offensive to myself and my family for expressing our disappointment in food, and even implied that he would ask us to leave for not showing appreciation for belated watery 'food'.
4- This massive waste of time and an evening was ours for only the low low price of £120.
I'm not sure if the previous reviews were made at a time of different management for Anoki but it escapes me as to why people have expressed a pleasurable experience when attending a meal at this poor excuse for a restaurant.
If you enjoy paying over the odds for not even sub-standard 'food' and enjoy the company of abrasive and offensive staff then this is the place for you. As a curry connoisseur myself, believe me when I say there are far far far better places to spend your evening than this horrific...
