We popped in to The Bell for a quick bite to eat and were very dissapointed. I ordered pie and my dinning companion ordered the burger. Not a complex order I hear you say..... well after more than half an hour our meals were nowhere to be seen, at this point I went to the bar to enquire how much longer it would be, I returned to my seat as they said they would find out. The manager came to the table shortly after and explained that something had gone wrong our order hadn't even been started... by this time we had been waiting around 50 minutes... we were given more drinks, a coke and soda and lime, and informed that they were having problems with the chef. We were offered a refund, but as we had already waited almost an hour we didn't have time to go somewhere else as we had an appointment. We were assured the meal would be with us in 10 minutes and we're also given a refund. After 20 mins our food arrived to our table... hurrah I hear you say.... well unfortunately it was not edible.... the burger was dry and burnt and yet somehow cold at the same time, the pie was dry and seemed to have been reheated, the chips were not fresh, very greasy, the manager returned to our to do a table check, the manager again apologised and repeated the problems with the chef. She took the food away and returned with two small bottles of Prescco for us to take with us. This was a very lovely gesture and very well received but unfortunately too late and will not be returning for a meal and I will not be recommending...
Read moreOld English pub, lots of character but unfortunately your food and service let you down. My friend took me for lunch yesterday (Mon 5th August) as I'm due to fly home to Oz after a UK holiday visiting family. The lunch order came out very quickly apparently the kitchen was quiet. We both had a sandwich one with fries & the other salad. We both commented that the bread was very stale & dry which was a let down. The fries looked very shrivelled and turned out to be cold. On telling the staff member he said "oh dear do you mind if I try" without waiting for an answer he then touched the fries with his hand and agreed that they were indeed cold. He said he would get some fresh ones, then returned with an empty plate & proceeded to scrape the cold fries off the plate using his fingers with the yet uneaten sandwich sitting on the same plate !! The sandwich remained uneaten as our appetites had suddenly diminished. The fries however came shortly after in a separate bowl & were fresh & hot. A complimentary drink was offered by way of an apology & accepted but maybe your staff need a reminder in the standards of hygiene with regard to food handling, to remove food from a customers plate with your hands when there's still uneaten food on it is a massive no no...
Read moreone of the rudest encounters I’ve had at a pub. We came in at 12 o’clock on a Thursday and went over to the bar and asked for a table for two, the women barked at us for our ID’s with no hello no welcome just immediately “ID’s now!” To which we both gave over our ID’s. We are 21&19 so I understand we look young and IDs to be checked but at 12 in the afternoon? To which when my cousin took back her ID off the lady she barked at her not to snatch when she did nothing of the sort. We were then seated directly under the AC so we’re freezing. The entire pub had maybe 6 other customers in it so was no need for us to be shoved in the corner. When we ordered food and drinks, I had the chicken Kiev and my cousin had a steak which she asked for to be rare and it came out medium. The garlic bread side ordered was burnt. The plates were slammed down onto the tables and the two staff members that came over with our plates and drinks were rude and blunt. When we asked for ketchup and mayonnaise we were brought tiny pots that were barely half full. We finished eating got up and left, deeply unwelcoming experience and a waste of money!! Average food at best and nasty staff!! Absolutely...
