Monday the 25th of February we decided to give O'neills a try as we had heard it had rebranded from the old "bank" and wanted to see the changes.
My friends and I approached the entrance with ID's at the ready as being mid 20's we expect bouncers to be on the cautious side. However instead of just wanting to ID us, the main middle bouncer (black, mid to late 20's 5 ft 11) said "you look like you do cocaine" to which the other bouncer (White, early 30's 5 ft 8) agreed with him. and said "you look like a load of sniffers"
My friends and I do not do drugs, nor do we expect to be accused as such on a monday evening.
Regardless, I let this gentlemen search my wallet, and then my friends let them search theirs aswell. Once they didn't find the imaginary drugs they were looking for.
They started to put their hands in our pockets without asking for consent.
I then asked them if they would do that if we were a group of women, to which they said "you obviously have stuff on you if you dont consent to a search"
I then decided that despite my age, i would not spend any money with a business who allowed their customers to be treated this way. This would not have happened if we were 30 years older, or female. And I will not have men put their hands in my trousers without my consent based on their sexist and ageist assumptions.
I then told the bouncers that they can search me, and get the police over if they like to do the same. But my friends and I will not spend any money there tonight.
As I was telling them this and walking away to a more friendly pub just a short walk up Market square. The first bouncer, said "come and f*g stand here and say that" Now having managed in hospitality environments before. I can tell you that he was trying to incite me to make an approach towards him so he could become aggressive. To which I didn't give him the pleasure. He then continued to hurl threats at us as we walked away.
Bouncers do not seem to like young men... And I understand that they have a duty to protect premises, but this Sexist and ageist abuse. Will not, and should not be tolerated.
Out of the 3 bouncers present only one (White, 30ish, 6 ft 2) retained professionalism. The other 2 were discriminatory and threatened violence.
I can't think of any other walk of life, where these aggressive assumptions are tolerated. And yet these 2 gentlemen use their licenses to push their sexist, ageist agendas. I have never been in a bar or pub in my life that are so aggressive and outright sexist on entry. Nor can I imagine I will unless I frequent O'neills, Beastmarket, Nottingham again. Which I'm...
Read moreOrdered a double Cheese and Bacon burger from what was a new member of staff who was been trained up (young girl with glasses). Due to inexperience on the tills and taking orders I was given a single instead of a double despite asking for a double burger. Very understanding of this as I have worked in hospitality and retail over the years and have been in that position plenty of times myself. This review is in no way directed at herself. Raised the mistake with the staff and asked would it be possible to get an extra beef patty from the kitchen. Blue haired man said “No” and said the only situation I would be able to get an extra Patty is if he rang it through the till and I paid an extra £10 again. Refused to ask the kitchen for an extra party or rectify the mistake. Was made to feel as though it was my mistake/fault and that I was infact interrupting his personal chat and conversation with the new girl behind the bar. Never pushed it as I’m not one to act the Karen and stress over a patty but from a bar/hospitality point of view it was very poor service and unprofessional. Eat and drink occasionally in the bar after work and during the weekends and normally have 0 issues. Thought it was very mean and miserable to lose potential future trade from a customer over a £1-£2 patty.
Unfair to leave critiques in my opinion without recognizing the Positives. This review despite having a negative vibe as a whole doesn’t reflect the bar in reality. Generally a good pub and food is normally excellent with the atmosphere good with music been played throughout the bar on speakers. Plenty of TVs so easy to view sports games. Good sports bar and for nights out. During the day it’s quieter for a...
Read morePopped in for some lunch and was very happy with the service as well as promptness of the staff. I ordered from Zoe who was very helpful as I was struggling with my student app, she told me it was possible that the app reset itself. She took my order and told me how long it was going to be roughly.
Whilst sat waiting I had a member of staff come over and ask if I was okay and I needed anything. I thought this was quite sweet. I asked her for a Latte, which she brought over to where I was sat, I think her name was Eden.
After around 15 /20 mins I was wondering where my food was an asked Jamie who I assume is the manager how long my food would be, she chased it up for me and withing 5 mins I had my food along side condimets.
I also notice her helping another customer with directions which I though was really kind of her.
Once I finished my food my plate was taken away by Amy, who asked if the food was okay and if I needed anything else. I declined and then sat around for a while and noticed that the staff didnt rush me to leave as I find other places had.
I felt happy and comfortable and will be visiting again...
