Had a strange/hilarious experience at this place: when we entered no one from the staff noticed us, so we just headed upstairs. We ordered and paid some food and drinks through the QR code - which always comes across as somewhat inhospitable as it is, but ok... it took about 25 minutes for the waiter to arrive with a bottle of beer, but without a glass. He handed the bottle to us and asked us if we wanted him to open it for us or whether we'd do it ourselves. ??? Looking somewhat puzzled we answered that, yes, we'd like him to open it, because we'd like to drink it. This surprised him and he told us that he'd have to get a bottle opener from the bar then. He started to walk away, but it then appeared to him that he'd forgotten something: he quickly turned around and asked us if we'd also like a glass to drink our beer from... very considerate, yes, we would like a glass!. (btw. this turned out to be the wrong beer. They'd run out of the one we ordered and just decided to replace it with an alcohol free version... we got to choose another beer, though, so no harm done there) About 15 minutes or so later - no one was in any rush here - the same waiter appeared with our food, or at least some of it. He placed the plates with our rice and chili on the table and asked us if we'd like forks as well... At this point we were convinced we were on a hidden camera prank tv show or something. When we answered that we would indeed like to eat our food with a fork, he shuffled off and got us some cutlery (yes, we even got knives as well!). He then brought us the rest of our food. We finished our food, which was actually pretty good. We didn't see our waiter anymore so after a while we just left. No one noticed us leave, no one said goodbye. At this point we didn't really care as we'd had some good food and had a good laugh as well. Not a place we'll ever come back to, but a funny memory...
Read moreWent for dinner with my family, after waiting 30+ mins for food (after not being able to order steak because they had none at 4pm on a Sunday) and sat at a sticky, unclean table. Good thing we have a toddler so I always carry baby wipes. The menu is overpriced, £3.05 for a half pint of coke from a tap? We didn’t even have salt at our table, we had 3 pepper shakers. We didn’t get cutlery until after our food had arrived, our starters came out along with our mains. The whole point of a starter is that it ‘starts’ the meal while we wait for our mains. Then at 4:50pm a staff member came around to all the tables to put our drinks into plastic cups. I said I’d prefer not to drink my coke from a plastic cup, he responded that he was instructed to remove all the glasses from the tables. I asked why, he said “because football”. Firstly, it’s the World Cup. If you as a person cannot control yourself over a bunch of lads kicking a ball around a field then you’ve bigger problems. Secondly, all our cutlery, empty bottles our drinks came in, plates, bottles of vinegar etc which would surely be as effective as a glass, on our table. The lack of logic is unbelievable. The service is poor, clearly lacks an intellectually sound management system and bad energy altogether. If you have a family, I’d highly avoid bringing your kids here. Seems like they expect thugs to give them...
Read moreWe liked the look of The Wig & Pen as it was close to the Theatre. I downloaded the Greene King app to enable us to order and pay from our table. Apart from my own bank blocking my card transactions, it worked very well. It was more convenient especially as the bar filled up quickly due to St Patrick's day.
There were 5 of us in my party and we all ordered various meals e.g. sausage and mash x2 bacon burger and chips and 1 pie and chips/mash along with 5 soft drinks for £65which I thought was very reasonable. Add an extra £6 for 2 desserts.
roughly remembered pricing from the app, but close.
The toilets are upstairs for both male and female, disabled toilets are located right of the stairs leading up to the balcony seating area and toilets.
The young man that brought us our meals and drinks and desserts was very polite and courteous.
If you are coming downstairs after using the toilets, members of the public carry up trays of food or drinks just barge up through the stairs. I tried to give men and women room on the stairs and I hoped that they would be the same to me but unfortunately not. I put it down to the day. I would not let that put me off from...
