I was genuinely looking forward to trying Ceylon Curry, but my experience left me disappointed and concerned. From the moment I walked in, something felt off. The restaurant didn’t give a sense of being cared for — tables hadn’t been wiped properly, the air felt stuffy, and the cutlery didn’t look like it had been cleaned thoroughly. It set the wrong tone before I’d even ordered.
When the food arrived, things unfortunately got worse. Dishes that should have been rich and full of flavour were bland and clearly reheated. Some items came out suspiciously fast and had that unmistakable texture of microwave cooking rather than being freshly prepared. For a place that advertises authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, this was a huge letdown.
Service also added to the disappointment. The staff seemed rushed, distracted, and uncomfortable, which made the whole atmosphere uneasy. As a diner, you want to relax and enjoy your meal, but it felt like everyone — staff and customers alike — was just waiting for it to be over.
For the price, I expected far better. Plymouth has many restaurants that deliver both cleanliness and genuine flavour, but sadly this isn’t one of them. Until there are serious improvements in hygiene, food preparation, and customer care, I couldn’t recommend...
Read moreWe’ve visited Ceylon Curry twice now, and both times were absolutely fantastic. The moment you step in, you’re welcomed with a warm smiles of the Sri Lankan staff.
The owner is incredibly friendly and takes genuine pride in the food and culture they bring to the table. The chef, clearly experienced and passionate. Brings authentic Sri Lankan flavours to life.
On our first visit, we had string hoppers with dhal and a tender mutton curry that reminded us of a home cooked meal back in Sri Lanka.
The second time, we tried the mutton kottu, fried rice, and a perfectly crisp fried fish. Every dish packed with flavour and freshly prepared. To finish off, the falooda was just the right touch of sweet and refreshing.
What really stood out beyond the amazing food was the atmosphere. It’s heartwarming to see Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim Sri Lankans all working and dining together under one roof. The sense of unity and community here makes the experience even more special.
A real taste of Sri Lanka right in the heart of Plymouth.
We’ll definitely be back again when we are...
Read moreWe ordered one chicken Biriyani and one chicken kottu. To be honest I’m originally from Sri Lanka and I know what Kottu means. The dish we got was no way near a good kottu. It was filled with chicken which is good but it was just chopped rotti and very much white in color.
Same goes for the Biriyani. I thought I ordered white rice!! We got a reasonably big piece of chicken and an egg which was rare in UK and that was good. But the taste of food was absolutely terrible. I’m really Sorry for this review but as Sri Lankans when you are advertising Sri Lankan food atleast have a good chef who can make them better. I ordered for collection and by the time of collection the food was super cold. May be cooked hours before. Portion size was big.
The atmosphere and the surrounding was really nice and the staff were super friendly. The price was reasonable but the food was not good. I haven’t tried other food so cannot comment about the overall taste. Sorry for this...
