Bombay Express Balti House — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I specifically asked the waiter for lamb tikka cooked in the clay oven (tandoor) because I don't eat regular lamb. He assured me that my order would be prepared in the tandoor, but when my food arrived, I received lamb balti and biryani made with regular lamb. Not only did they get my order wrong, but when I questioned it, they claimed that their lamb tikka is cooked in a standard oven “for tenderness.” It felt like the waiter was lying, and he clearly lacked proper knowledge of the menu.

After returning the incorrect dishes, I decided to replace the curry and biryani with chicken tikka. While that was indeed cooked in the tandoor, it was completely tasteless, bland, and lacked proper flavor. It even seemed like the curry hadn't been cooked correctly.

Additionally, the waiter failed to communicate with chef properly, which made everything even more frustrating. Overall, this was a very poor experience with misleading information, careless handling of dietary needs, and terrible food quality. I left feeling extremely disappointed and would not recommend this...

Bombay Express Balti House is my favourite place for authentic Indian food. The dishes are always fresh, flavourful, and made with great care. What truly sets this restaurant apart is the exceptional hospitality. The owner, Babul, is incredibly welcoming and ensures every guest feels at home. Absolutely loved the food here! The chicken thali, lamb shank, and Assam chicken were all packed with authentic Indian flavors. Everything was well-prepared and delicious.
