So firstly, this is not a bad 3 stars! 3 stars is OK! The food was lovely, as always with anything Thai. I'm yet to have bad Thai good (supermarket stuff aside). Good flavours, each dish tasting different. Part of the reason for reduced stars, the setting... this is personal. When I go out gor a meal I like it tobe an event and the setting forms a part of the experience. The outside looks great and a inviting, the inside is like a house that has been made to accommodate tables and chairs with the odd picture or wall decoration put up (I am aware this is most likely what it is). So for me, a little underwhelming. 8f you just want food, don't let this stop going here. The service was also just OK. Initially very good woth food order and a drink but it then drifted off to poor. Once out main meals were collected no one else came back to the table to offer desserts or more drinks. After about 15 minutes of waiting at an empty table I managed to eventually get the attention of someone and asked about desserts and drinks. They don't offer desserts unless you have the set meal. Maybe I should have known this? I've never been before though and everywhere I've eaten previous dessert is a thing. Summary, if you just want some tasty food with no frills then this is still a great place. For me, I'll probably try another thai next time.

Fah Thai in Portsmouth is a delightful surprise, especially for those last-minute dining decisions on a bustling Friday evening. Nestled on Albert Road, this gem of a restaurant not only accommodates spontaneous visits but does so with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff, known for their friendliness and a good sense of humor, add a personal touch to the dining experience, making guests feel like regulars even on their first visit. The menu, reasonably priced, offers a variety of authentic Thai dishes. While they don’t have beer on tap, their selection of bottled beers, modestly priced at £3.85, complements the meal nicely. The overall dining experience at Fah Thai is marked by excellent service and a welcoming environment. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to return, not just for the food but for the warm and jovial ambiance that the staff bring to your table.

This is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants I've had in the UK.The restaurant's decoration is mainly wood, which feels very high-end. When you enter the restaurant, you feel like you are in Thailand. It is very special. We ordered a cocktail recommended by the owner. It tasted sour and sweet and was very appetizing. The restaurant has a homemade fish cake that tastes very good and has a great texture. I highly recommend it. I also love their Pad Thai, which is definitely one of the best in the UK Thai restaurants. The owner is also very friendly. Normally you can't choose the spiciness, but here you can adjust the Thai curry to your preferred spiciness. Finally, their Tom Yum Goong is a must-try. You won't get it outside often.

Sorry but I have to start with the negative as this was at the end of our meal and tainted the good time we had there.

You cannot add a COMPULSORY service charge of 10% onto the bill, and STILL demand that I pay the service charge after I said that I wanted to pay less. I'm pretty sure it is illegal to do this - and I only paid it because I didn't want to make a scene out of it, and the waitress clearly wasn't going to back down.

If I say that I would like to pay less service charge, you have to adhere to it (unless stated this to me before we made our orders, which didn't happen). I would like to have the choice of how much of a tip I leave.

Furthermore, it says at the bottom of the receipt "tables of 4 or more will have a 10% charge on the bill". - This wasn't told to us before hand so we weren't to know and therefore SHOULD NOT have to pay the amount that YOU tell us to! On top of that, its usually a table of 6 or more in other places!!

To be honest, I found the food portions very small for the prices and not as good as other Thai food, certainly...

Well where can I start. Honestly this was probably the worst Thai food I have every had it was extremely bland and the rice which they brought out wrong to begin with was as cold as a corpse! The chicken in every single dish was rubbery and very chewy, I find it hard to believe that it even was chicken? Who knows what they fed us! We were utterly disappointed with the service and the communication within the staff, not taking away from the pure joy that some of the staff shared with us but still doesn’t make up for the hour late food. We were shoved in a corner right in the door way which was absolutely freezing cold felt like we’d be transported to the antartic which was far from the Thai experience we were looking for. I always enjoyed Thai food up until now the food was disgusting, we walked home feeling sick and confused with what we just ate. If you’re thinking about coming to this restaurant I’d think again this may of been just our experience but I’m sure this isn’t...
