I have been to Cote in other areas before and always enjoyed the experience. This is my first time at Cote in Reading, and it is now my favourite of the chain. We went for a work do and we had 14 people on the table. First, the atmosphere: not too brightly lit, so it gives a nice warm feeling when you enter. It is a bit like a nice pub. The service: Excellent. The pre-orders were taken a week earlier, and they had printed our names and orders in advance (nice touch). The waiting staff were attentive, but not so much that they got disturbed us constantly. The food: I had the Crab Maison to start followed by the Sirloin Steak Deluxe. The crab was subtly flavoured, allowing the flavour of the crab to come through. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare (those with medium done were impressed too). Again, there is just enough seasoning to allow the flavour of the meat to come through. A friend had the vegan burger, which he said he really enjoyed too. Overall, the experience was incredible, the food was excellent, and the service was perfect throughout. Thank you, Cote Team.

Atmosphere and service was as good as it has always been. Unfortunately the new menu and products were disappointing. Fries have been replaced with cheap tasting thick cut chips. They’ve moved to unlimited fries so I assume this has been facilitated by a cheaper product. Various items have been removed from the menu such as the duck and replaced with pasta dishes. A shame and would assume it has been done to facilitate meals with a better mark up. Pictured is the half roast chicken and frites which cost £22. Extremely disappointing and honestly felt like a meal you would get at a wetherspoons or equivalent for a fraction of the cost. Whilst the new menu is advertised as going back to their roots it feels much more like a move to increase profits. Unlikely to visit again, which is a shame as it was a firm favourite. The staff were extremely understanding and went above what you would expect following highlighting of the issues.

Booked a dinner on a Friday night as we have not been to this place yet. The moment we came in the lady was very nice and accommodating. She gave us options where to seat as it is not too crowded last night. Had Calamari for starters. I always loved calamari and Côte’s calamari was perfectly cooked along with the dip, a star!! The steak too was great. According to my likeness of medium rare. The truffle potato puree goes really well with the steak. The man who serves us was really friendly and accommodating. He kept asking if there’s anything we need and if the food is good. I think I won’t go wrong booking this for my birthday on December. Looking forward to it!

Côte Brasserie is a modern French brasserie chain that serves regional specialties and traditional classics. The Reading branch is located on Broad Street, in the heart of the city centre.

The restaurant has a spacious and airy interior, with high ceilings and large windows. The decor is stylish but understated, with a mix of dark wood, leather, and marble. There is a bar area at the front of the restaurant, as well as a dining area that seats around 150 people.

The menu at Côte Brasserie is extensive, with something to suit all tastes. There are starters such as onion soup gratinée, moules marinière, and steak tartare. For main courses, you can choose from grilled meats, fish, and pasta dishes. There is also a selection of salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

We ordered the fougas, salmon croquettes, minute steak frites with peppercorn sauce, which was cooked perfectly and served with a generous portion of fries, roasted chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and vegetables, Breton fish stew

The service at Côte Brasserie was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made helpful suggestions and was happy to answer any questions we had.

Overall, we had a very positive experience at Côte Brasserie in Reading. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good French meal in the city centre.

Here are some additional pros and cons of Côte Brasserie in Reading:

Pros:

Delicious food Excellent service Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere Extensive menu with something to suit all tastes Convenient location in the city center

Overall, I would give Côte Brasserie in Reading a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It is a great option for a special occasion or a casual meal...

WARNING - Special comments on website booking form ARE NOT REVIEWED by the local restaurant until you arrive at the agreed time. Please read below to find.out why...

Worst experience of a restaurant I've ever had in 30 years. Spent over £300 at xmas, had a lovely evening and promised my wife I would take her back. Email from Cotes came through with January offer of 3 courses per person for £13. To ensure that the offer applied, I noted this in the 'special comments' section of their online form.

Money wasn't the main driver to take up this offer but the email arrived at the right time. Sat down at 7pm after placing booking online and noted in the comments it was for the email offer!

After sitting down at 6:58, the first thing (after hello) the waitress said to us was "you can only order on this side of the menu and you MUST place your order within the next two minutes.

We said this is embarrassing and we're not here for the offer but to have a nice meal and the conversation degraded from there. We were very embarrassed but that was nothing compared to what followed. 10 minutes later! The manageress arrived and, long story short, we spent the next 30 minutes with her in a discussion about how bad their process was!

The manageress said that is it wasn't their fault and that the company that provided the marketing was not connected to them and it was a glitch in the system. They offered free drinks and a meal but we couldn't get out of the situation quickly enough. We gave them £20 cash and left.

I dread to think of the outcome if we had allergies because, as stated clearly by the managers, Cotes don't review the comments on the booking form until you arrive. What's the point then?

Worst dining experience of my life. Avoid if you are taking up a cheap and tacky...

We had a really lovely meal in Cote Reading on Friday (29th September 2025) where we were celebrating my Dad's birthday. Our main waitress was very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and careful with our orders (we are sometimes a complicated family with requirements) and none of the several changes were missed. The food arrived in good time and was very very tasty. We also had a few mocktails which were very enjoyable. We had another waitress towards the end of the evening who was only into her third week and she brought not only a fantastic, engaging, warm and humorous energy to proceedings but also a surprise birthday mini dessert with candle after the team had evidently spotted it was a birthday do. Ordinarily the singing of happy birthday by waiting staff fills me with cringe, but our waitress lead it and styled it out with a lovely very brief moment of connection with my 77 year old father. The only detractor for me was the acoustics of the venue. As a longish table to seat 9, it was hard to chat easily beyond ones immediate neighbours and by the end of the evening I was relieved to get out of the noise. All in all though - a great visit. Well done and thank you to the team at...
