I visited this cafe for the first time on Monday on my way to Kent after shopping in their nearby beautiful food store, and was served by a very abrupt member of staff, who when i politely asked if they do cream with the Americano coffee, she looked at me sternly, pointed & said those you mean as if I was stupid, I then found myself apologizing saying that I never saw the miniature creams & that a lot of cafés don't do them anymore, with that she just stared at me, I ordered the lage coffee & a slice of carrot cake, she then slammed my coffee down, grabbed a slice of cake, snatched the £10 note I had in my hand, put the change on the tray & walked off, what's the rush?
The so called large coffee was just over half full where she obviously took it from the coffee machine far too soon, I also found the carrot cake tasty but very dry, but what upset me the most though was the fact that this lady stood talking the whole time I was there to the people on the table opposite me, laughing & joking when most of the tables needed clearing, plus i needed serving with respect, a very uncomfortable experience with a disgraceful attitude, i wasn't even given a reciept as i found it very overpriced for what i...
Read moreVery busy at times and a victim of its own success in this regard. Could do with a few more tables or more room between them especially for those with walking aids but space doesn't really allow that. Friendly service without exception. Drinks are ok, and a good range of nicely presented cakes. However it's quite pricey compared to other cafes in general, not so much compared to those in high touristy areas though. Bear in mind the cakes etc are baked by Jempson's locally and so are fresh as possible and are a decent size. Not somewhere for a quiet drink in high season but that's probably true of most eateries in Rye! If you are tempted by one of the cakes, and don't want to queue or pay extra to eat in, why not pop along to the Jempson's supermarket nearby close to the train station (same family owns it obviously) and buy one of the same cakes or cream buns there -prices from about 80p...
Read moreNice cup of tea, gluten free flapjack rather disappointing. I wasn't impressed with a certain member of staff. My partner left his Adidas jacket behind, and we didnt realise until about an hour later. My partner returned to Jempsons, and asked if he had left his jacket, he was told nothing had been found by a young lady, who had a cant be bothered attitude, he continued to search, re-visiting other shops in the pouring rain. I suggested we should go back to Jempsons, I was sure he had left it there. I asked the same lady if a Jacket had been found, again, same answer, and too busy cleaning up! I suggested she double checked, and ask another member of staff. Reluctantly she looked behind the counter, and handed over my partners Jacket! I get staff are busy, but come on Jempsons, it took 5 secs to look behind the counter, and the lady in question really needs to work on her customer...
