Booked here for my husbands first Fathers Day and the experience was really disappointing.
Upon arrival, it was clear that there was no organisation in place for such a busy day of the year and we could barely enter the space with our pushchair. After taking a while for us to finally be acknowledged by a staff member it became apparent that we would not be able to get to our table as no thought had been given by the staff around accessibility. A large table had been placed in the way of the entrance to the main restaurant and an elderly diner who had been placed at the table had to be moved during their meal so we could get through!
Once we were sat down, the experience just continued to be shambolic. Firstly, no menus had been given to us (even though the couple that had been seated before us had been given theirs) and the first two chairs my husband had sat on were both broken! The staff member was even aware these were broke but had left them at tables rather than removing them! It was also clear that the restaurant area had become neglected with discarded furniture being shoved in the corner and blocking emergency exits/fire doors.
Drinks came fine but the wait for the roast was unacceptable (1 hour 15) just isn’t good enough- especially when we had a young baby and it was clear that something had gone wrong with our order. Tables who had ordered after or just before us received their food long before us (we were told the wait was due to the chicken being too salty)! When the roasts did arrive, the vegetables were nice but both the chicken & pork we ordered was overdone and dry. It was also still extremely salted!
When feeding this back to a staff member we were informed this would be fed back to the kitchen. At no point was any offer made to take any money off the bill which was deeply disappointing. £65 for two mediocre roasts and a drink was way overpriced. Toilets were also unclean and the facilities were open to the general public using the park.
Unfortunately until things improve, we will not be heading back...
Read moreAbsolutely Awful. Booked and arrived to find the patio was full due to the georgous Weather. The bar was busy. Got a drink and seated by a staff member who really didn't want to be there. He then bought the menu and advised only bread and Olive starters were available. Then pointed out half the mains were not available and there were no sides, only Chips!! What, no vegetables? His colleague was talking to another equally shocked customer who the stated the issue was the chef for not getting to grips with how to re-order the right amount of stock. They are Vegetables. So they couldn't just go down the street and get some? Too much hassle I suppose. We ordered 2 x Belly Pork. No one else in the restaurant was actually eating. I went to get another drink and the bar queue was stretching back to the doorway entrance. A member of staff decided to just shout from behind the bar " can you move away from the door". Everyone looked at each other and could not believe our ears. Just walk out and ask nicely. Went back to my table, still No food was appearing. After 55 minutes when we just about to leave the food arrived. With the same "really wish I wasn't here" member of staff. Food was Luke warm and pretty ordinary. This is the second time we have eaten here (first time the food was burnt), and the last time. The place isn't cheap, but I give this -1 for value for money. This is the worse place I have visited some quite some time. I really think the management needs to look at the behaviour of the staff. We know things can go wrong, but it seems to be acceptable to have no customer skill or focus. Absolutely shocking experience. I don't expect much but courtesy and decency for your customers is an...
Read moreI only visited the place for the first time a month ago but it is already our 'after tennis' social spot every Friday night. I have also begun to pop down now in the week as it’s such an exceptionally good pub.
It is an independent pub so the choice of alcoholic drinks is wide and ever changing. This includes locally brewed ales that are constantly changing each week. The prices are also fair despite such a grand location. The staff are always well turned out and like the Bearwood neighbourhood they are in they are typically easy going.
I have yet to try the food but what I have seen looks really good. There is also a wheeled ice cream caddy inside the pub which has a variety of coned/tubbed flavours price from £2.
The pub is a renovated Grade II listed Manor House and it is rather swanky looking I must say. Great location to spend time with friends.
The inside is gorgeously furnished and the decor looks smart and stately. Plenty of seating too, including some armchairs which are great for relaxing after a hard day’s work.
There is also a lot of seating outside which is great especially on sunny days as you are literally sitting in the park (Lightwoods Park) and watching the world go by.
The pub is animal friedndly so feel free to bring a four legged friend as they have water bowls out.
There is a private car park adjacent to the pub that is free so no worries about forgetting to enter your registration plates and...
