When it comes to Fish and chip shops I can tell you I have tried a lot. Me and my best pal travel up to Largs every Friday to The Blue Lagoon from Kilmarnock. Due to the increasing cost of eating out we now go every month and look forward to it. I always go for the fish tea or the Scampi and chips with mushy peas. Its 90% of the time excellent with fresh golden crispy chips and fresh fish with a tasty batter and hot mushy peas. I also love the Scampi with chips and a side salad. Its delicious. However there have been a few times when the chips were not up to par. For me it was as if the cooking oil was needing changed and I never enjoyed it. Also I love my coffee and it could be made even better by using a high quality coffee not that cheap catering stuff. Also why not use a quality Mayonnaise rather than the bland tasting stuff that they serve. So we really enjoy the food but it could be even better. A review has to be honest and balanced and if a cafe cant take the slightest criticism then its pointless spending your money there. As for the staff especially the lady called Jennifer. All I can say is she always takes great care of us and makes sure everything is to our liking. The other girls are also very helpful and efficient. Also the place is spotlessly clean. Its hard to judge the main Fryer of the cafe as the faces change from time to time but 90% of the time the food is very good. However just a few little changes and It could be 100% excellent. Plus I don't made paying a little extra for the higher quality coffee and condiments. Running a cafe and trying to please the public all of the time is difficult, but people will try once and then go somewhere else if they don't deliver the quality. For me The Blue Lagoon in Largs served me the best fish and chips and scampi I have ever had. And thats why me and my pal will be back up this Friday again. Just a few tweeks is needed for it...
Read moreThe first time that I was At this chippy was 3 weeks ago. I was so impressived by the lovely helpful lady and older gentleman (plus the chips were pretty good) that when I was back in the area yesterday, it was very much on my list to visit. It is INCREDIBLE however, how different people can give very different perceptions of the chip shop and leave you with very different opinions.
This time, rather than it’s being the lovely lady and gentleman from 3 weeks ago, the local ‘young team’ seemed to have taken over the chip shop. First impressions was a very very Uninterested young girl who really needs a lesson or two in customer service. 2nd was the slang language being used amongst them as well as at the customers. Then there was the shear lack and will to do anything that might require effort without huffing and puffing going on behind the counter. THEN, after what was about 8-10mins of hanging about (when there was only one person in front of me), the young team finally asked what I wanted (which was a special fish) only for me to be told “it’s just want you see” and they would not be doing any more fish. NOW...I do get the fact that when I went in, it was 8.36pm. By the time I got served, it was just before 8.45pm. It’s NOT that late guys.
I simply got the impression the young team behind the counter could not be bothered. Their language and attitude within the short time I was there certainly seemed to support that.
The worst part...I ended up just getting a bag a chip...however, the chips were rotten. Soggy, undercooked, stuck together....REAL AMATEUR STUFF!!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LOVELY LADY AND THE SUPPORTING GENTLEMAN??? It’s...
Read moreJust happened to pass this eatery on my way home after a long drive …..I saw this chippy and I was starving after a long day out-so I had a sit-down rather than a take away! Just had a standard haddock and chips( or as they say up here a'fish supper'. Only 2 other people in the shop already eating their meal....this was about 8.pm on a weekday evening. Table service by a pleasant waitress and eventually I got my fish and chips-to say I was disappointed is an understatement....the chips were edible but the fish was 'rank'. To qualify this the batter was very dark but the whole fish was 'soggy'. I pressed it with the side of my knife and oil poured out of it. The waitress just happened to pass by and said 'is your meal OK?' I said that the fish was poor and almost inedible. The waitress said nothing but just looked at me blankly not knowing what to do. I ate about a quarter of the fish as I was starving hungry. I needed to get going as I was tired and wanted to get some sleep. I got nowhere with my complaint. I did what my American friend says 'complain pleasantly at the time as all companies would rather deal with the problem then and there with a satisfied customer leaving the place and hopefully returning'. Well I did that and got nowhere....I've only lived in Scotland 6 months and usually have a 'fish supper' once a fortnight at different places around North Ayrshire...this was the worst fish and chips I've had to date: suffice to say--I will not be going back. I always think that the management cares if they bother to answer your comments: Let's wait and...
