This was my first time trying this place, a pub in Largs. I went with my sister who has been several times before as she rates it so much. Having tried it, I agree, it's worth the trip. She ordered the chicken with Stornoway black pudding in peppercorn sauce, potatoes and vegetables, as a small plate. The portion was a good size even for the small plate and as my sister stated it tasted as great as any other time she has had it. I ordered the steak and sausage pie, with potatoes and vegetables, as a small plate. It was cooked to perfection, it tasted fantastic. We had also ordered the special of the day, a portion of haggis loaded fries with cheese and peppercorn sauce, although we were both stuff from our main meals, we couldn't help but agree that the loaded fries were amazing and would have been perfect as a stand alone meal. There was music playing in the background of quite a variety of genres and it was a nice mildly lit area by a big window that let in plenty of light in as well, there was lots of seating and it became busier into lunch time, and retained a great atmosphere the whole time. Would definitely recommend going a wee trip here if you aren't particularly...
Read moreThere were no signs to tell us, but kids are not allowed in unless they are dining, and adults with kids are not allowed to have alcoholic drinks. We went in on holiday, my husband going in first to order drinks, whilst the rest of us (me and our kids aged 20, 17, and 13) finished eating icecreams outside, and when the rest of us entered, he was told we needed to sit and order some food. The server was apologetic, but we hadn't planned on eating, particularly as we need to find somewhere that caters for Coeliacs. We ordered a bowl of chips, which were nice enough, but being made to pay for something which we hadn't wanted made us feel really unwelcome. If you're without kids, it may be a lovely place, but if you're with your family, go over the road to Drouthy Neebors instead. It's much more friendly...
Read moreI'm always apprehensive of going into a restaurant or pub that I've never been in before as you never know quite what to expect! What did we get?
....Lovely staff, very attentive without being 'in your face' and the atmosphere of the pub was friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic. We ordered toasties which came with a side salad (coleslaw was fabulous! I could have eaten a plate of that alone!) and the option of adding chips, which we did - obviously! All of it was delicious. Toasties were perfect, generous filling and finished to perfection. We are definitely going back there to try other delicious options from the menu! Compliments to the chef and to the rest of the team, thank you for a pleasant, relaxing lunch. Only downside, the toilets, clean enough but badly...
