Fantastic tantalising culinary experience for the taste buds!
The fresh sourdough bread arrived warm and with what appeared to be homemade butter tasted amazing ! I had raspberry mocktail made with fresh raspberries was perfect, the most delicous moreish refreshing drink I ever tried.
The server (female, red hair) presented very bubbly and went over and above to provide a 5 star service to our table.
The chateaubriand was cooked to perfection and the meat was of good quality, the sauces and sides were the piece de resistance of the entire meal ! We ordered the hispi cabbage which was my personal favourite made me want to recreate the recipe everything from the taste, seasonings and the mustard accompanying sauce was spectacular. The confit potatoes were perfect, a fusion between traditional roast and smokey patatas braves with a slightly sweet carrot marinade speckled throughout. The fries were also tasty crispy and fresh! My only regret is not trying the tobacco smoked onions as we noted that others had ordered and looked elite.
On the flip side I didnt like the curtain at the entrance I felt it could work better if drawn back as when entering it felt like we used the wrong door and was slapped in the face with a thick fabric curtain. The restaurant was cold. The stairs were very narrow and poorly lit and in my stiletto heels I nearly fell several times sober may i also add :)
The seating arrangement in my opinion was more of a cafe/bistro rather than the 5 star exemplar the food and drink suggests, would benefit from bigger tables, possibly booths to offer more privacy and romantic ambience for couples and perhaps giving certain parties the option to sit upstairs.
The music was great too added to the atmosphere and the decoration throughout was boutique, artsy and classic, the overall style was modern and unique.
All in all though it was an amazing restaurant and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a reasonable priced, modern, mouth-watering...
Read moreThe restaurant is split to 2 floors. We were seated on the downstairs lower floor, which was a very warm, dark, serious room. Compared to the atmosphere upstairs, the upstairs had a bright cheery mood which we would probably have preferred.
The main is commonly just the steak or a burger (which specials on the board) and a few options for sides.
We had ordered the steak, carrots and crispy mushrooms. The steak for 2 pax was already £35. The steak is considerably small for the fact it is for 2 pax and though texture was great, the flavour could be better. It comes with a small 1/4 tasteless tomato and a single panseared mushroom which again is meant to be shared by 2 pax.
The sides dish carrot was over cook with it being really soft. The pesto over it was good and gave good flavour. The other side dish was crispy mushroom and fried long beans. The crispy mushroom was good but it sat over really oily long beans. Similar to the steak, the side dishes were small for the prices they were charging.
The dessert was sort of funny as one wouldn't expect to hold a cone of ice cream in a restaurant that they try to give out Michelin vibes.
As for staff behaviour, there was one that was rather argumentative when we had asked them to refire our steak as it was slightly under done to our liking. (we had asked for medium towards well done) but it was rare to maybe slightly medium.
The end of the bill has an extra 10% service charge which I would have declined to pay for the poor service and everything that was mentioned above but we didn't as we just wanted to leave.
Overall, it would be a place I would just go once for the experience and not a place I would be...
Read moreChateau-X is a small but cosy restaurant on Claremont Street in Finnieston which I believe is like a spin-off restaurant from Six by Nico. The atmosphere was really cosy and intimate (we were sitting downstairs) probably felt that bit more cosy as the electrics cut and we ate by candle light...but I have to say.... it was sorted pretty quickly and the staff were very apologetic and deducted some sides from our bill which is more than fair. I'll be honest .. we had a fabulous bottle of red on the table so the candle light was fine. My friend and I were there for my birthday which they acknowledged and gave us a glass of fizz which was very nice of them. Our server was Rian who was super nice and really helpful especially with the wine recommendation (which he got spot on). So.... now to the food.... wow.... the chateaubriand steak... was so delicious it had been butter basted to perfection and melted in the mouth. Also the sides we had were top notch! The carrots with tarragon pesto... was like a food marriage! Bone marrow was awesome. So was the beef dripping chips and mac&cheese croquettes with a touch of chipolte! But my fav side was the cabbage.... who'd have thought a side of cabbage could be the star of the sides but it was outstanding...never been excited about cabbage before but this was not just cabbage.. this was bbq hispi cabbage, black garlic with aged Ewe's cheese. 😉 and it was fab! And.... to top it off... soft whip ice cream with raspberry sauce in a proper waffle cone on the house!! Prices are reasonable for what it is. But for 2 expect to pay up to £70 for 2 sides each with soft drinks or more with alcohol. Definitely worth...
