Lovely wee place this, casual dining doing a range of classic dishes and hearty Nepalese cuisine that I’d not experienced before. Was nostalgic and reminded me of many places I went to growing up.
Decor was relaxed and clean, staff were attentive and very friendly and the menu was easy to navigate and full of delicious dishes back to front.
Could not fault the food at all, mixed pakora was excellent, crispy batter with fresh ingredients delivered with some banging sauces. Homemade pakora sauce and brilliant Rita with the lamb. Poppadoms and dipping sauces is always a class way to start a meal too.
Think the star of the show here is without a doubt the curries. Wow. I got a Nepalese Gosht and my goodness just packed with flavour. Big serving too meaning I went from starving to stuffed in a matter of minutes, couldn’t help myself from wolfing the whole thing down.
For a classic Indian / Nepalese meal I would highly recommend this place. It isn’t a super fancy new age tiny small plates posh joint, it’s a down to earth family friendly homely establishment serving hearty food at a great price. Staff and everyone around us had a smile on their face, food was served in minutes and their service for a man in a wheelchair was nothing but top shelf.
My only complaint is the place should be bigger so more people can enjoy it :)
Really lovely meal,...
Read moreI don’t understand the rage about this place. The food is OK, but the staff are absolutely awful. I looked online for the pre-theatre menu and saw that it ran from 4 to 6 on a Saturday, but when I arrived I was greeted by a very unfriendly man who informed me that it only ran until 5 on Saturdays — I’ve never heard of that before in my life. There is also a woman who walks about with a constant scowl on her face, and the music is so repetitive it does my head in. It seems that people only go because it’s cheap, because the service is way beyond appalling.
In response to the person who replied to this — they’re fully aware that I have been a regular at Himalayan Dine Shawlands for a while, so I think I’m well placed to comment on the quality of the food. Furthermore, it isn’t ‘clearly stated on the menu’ as it cannot be found online and therefore can be changed at will without anyone knowing about it. The pre-theatre used to run until 6 on a Saturday — I’ve had it before. Regardless, the man at the door’s attitude stank and he has been very unpleasant the numerous times he has served us in the past. Looks like the management is grasping at...
Read moreWent there with my family and friends. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Most of us tried the chicken sekuwa for starter which was mouth watering and has perfect balance of spices. Momos (lamb minced dumplings) was specially my favourite, the mince inside was so juicy and tender that it just melts in your mouth. For the main course we had Everest lamb chops that was amazingly delicious. Upon asking the chef the main recipe was that they keep it marinated for over 12 hours before they cook them..which made the spices soaked into the meat and make the taste exquisite. And my moms favourite was the monk fish tikka which was beautifully presented and full of flavour. Would definitely be back again very soon. And would recommend everybody to definitely...
