As someone who grew up around Nepalese people and sampled a variety of South Asian cuisine - and who has a pretty high standard when it comes to taste - I have to say I was very impressed with my overall experience here.
We were a group of 4 adults and 1 child who arrived an hour before closing time during a weekday for dinner after a long day of travel.
We were greeted with the same warmth as if the shop had just opened.
The sense of hospitality and cheer was second to none and we were in fact told to take our time having food and not rush.
The ambiance and decor is so authentic with beautiful photos of Nepal surrounding you with lovely music playing in the background even though the restaurant was about to close soon and we were the only diners ! This sense of kind heartedness and hospitality is what I remember most vividly about Nepalese people and it was so refreshing to see this emanate through the service.
The food itself is to die for. It was freshly cooked and steaming hot with modest portion size. The momos were so authentic and the curries and biryani were unapologetically spicy as they should be with very distinct flavours compared to the typical Indian food joint. My experience in terms of taste instilled in me the confidence to certainly return and try out everything else on the menu because I just know I won’t be disappointed.
The host was so honest and considerate to remind us that the haggis pakora we ordered wasn’t halal and if we would like an alternative. (Fish pakora was awesome too) I really appreciated this.
Our experience concluded with a complementary serving of mint leaf chocolates that I found both beautiful and thoughtful - that the last taste on your mouth would be of mint leaf - the restaurants name.
Thoroughly impressed by this surprise find and would recommend everyone to go here to get a taste of not just authentic Nepalese cuisine but also the beautiful Nepalese culture.
10/10. Keep it up guys and thank...
Read moreWent for an Indian with my mum today at lunch time, thought would be nice wee treat as somewhere new with good reviews as far as we could see. Turned out pretty bad. We had a popodaum each when we went in which were fine, however an hour of waiting and didn't even receive our starters which server kept saying it was coming but it took so long eventually we started getting fed up and I had an appointment I needed to attend late afternoon still gave us 2 hours. After an hour and a half a waiter came with what we thought was our starters but they missed them entirely and brought our mains, we weren't happy about and had to cancel the starters. The mains were small portions with pretty much all sauce and hardly any meat and fairly bland. We only ordered a curry each 1 rice and a naan plus a starter each so not a lot of food. Pretty shocking and won't be returning definetly NOT recommending worst indian I've been to for both food and service! Only good thing I could say is that they only charged us for 1 meal to make up for the terrible service, there was no excuse as it was quiet, lunch time and they had even half an hour after we came in looked like they were making it closed to...
Read moreHad lunch at the Mint Leaf with 3 others. The restaurant was busy, clean (even the toilets) and had a nice atmosphere. We usually go to Mr Singh’s Indian Cottage but had heard good things about Mint Leaf.
I ordered veg pakora and saag paneer, both of which were delicious ! Recommend the garlic naan - so light and tasty. I have taken a star off as one of our party’s curry was a little stingy on the chicken. Appreciate it was lunchtime but comparing to other Indian restaurants we go to, it was too small. I feel that there should be more vegetarian options on the lunch menus. When I asked if I could have the saag made with paneer it was no problem but perhaps paneer or Quorn pieces could be offered on the menu as an alternative to chicken or lamb.
The service was good - lots of staff and the food arrived without delay. I have taken a star off this as we were originally charged for 3 extra drinks (always check your bill) and in comparison to the Indian Cottage, we didn’t get any hot towels afterwards.
Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch and would...
