Wow.... Went last night for my birthday dinner and was all a disappointment.... The food was bad and the service worse... One creepy waiter that could barely take an oder cause he was to focus looking at my friend's , that they are pretty I get it, but the incompetence really impressed me.... We had problem with a gluten free pasta which that was sorted from the other tall and non creepy waiter, but even he didn't bother looking at me or asking what s up with the bland and watery seabass and saffron sauce that I had barely touched., knowing that is my birthday but still no one cared....my fiancé pasta was not that good either as she ordered the creamy rigatoni with spinach and chicken, just enough cream and 5 tinie squares of chicken for whole pasta plate .... and some of us didn't want to bother more so they just ate... but this morning I asked and 6out of 7 people still has a weird tummy ....Also my fiancé went to speak with the creepy waiter but he actually patched her pointing at the other waiter, basically " go to him" cause he was too busy waving at my friend making her bit uncomfortable I have to say ..... Overall everyone has a bit of a weird tummy today... And we all went home early last night as we didn t feel like drinking.... So the service was poor and awkward and the food was pretty bland, sad and no care... We only left a tip because we work in hospitality... But I m gonna start to be fair with tips from now on.... I m Italian and the food was "very far from home" .... Talking about COVID, I didn't see the waiting staff sanitising they're Hands between table to table, and the chef walking around the floor with no mask( I am a chef as well and I always wear the mask especially going to the consumer areas)... Anyway.......... Definitely First time and last time..... Total Disappointment.... And apologies for the long story but I needed to share this....

Went with a Wowcher deal for 2 courses and glass of wine. We arrived on time and were shown to our table within 5 min. Not an ideal spot as we were seated beside a group of men and there was a strong smell of body odour. Obviously this can’t be helped by the restaurant but maybe not sit a couple beside them as there were plenty other empty tables. The menu wasn’t very varied. Pasta, risotto or pizza for main. Burger or fish was available at a supplement. I had garlic mushroom for starter. Tiny portion, literally 2 mushrooms and a bundle of mixed leaves. Main was pizza which was average, base was a bit tough and took a bit of effort to cut with a dinner knife. Steak knife or pizza cutter would have been better. We didn’t have dessert as it was quite expensive at £7. When our bill arrived I was charged £1.50 for onion to substitute pineapple on the pizza. I queried with the waiter and he said he didn’t realise I wanted to swap the toppings and he would be told to charge for the onion anyway-I specifically asked to have onion instead of pineapple. He obv seen I wasn’t impressed as he came and refunded the cost before we left. Toilet was just a single room for use by male and female. Strong smell of urine in the room and puddles on floor around the toilet. Not a great experience. I wouldn’t return.

The food was fantastic! I had the Calamari which was fresh and wasnt frozen calamari rings but instead fresh prepped calamari which was tender and had a crunchy coating and was delicious with the lemon. My partner had the mussels in white wine, garlic and cream sauce which was a generous starter portion of mussels as well as having 2 slices of garlic bread! The sauce was incredible - one of the best tasting mussels ive ever had. The mains we ordered a polo fungi and a polo picante pizza. These were so fresh. We were worried the chicken in the polo picante would be dry or over cooked - no! It was fresh, flavoursome and juicy. The rice was cooked perfectly and had a great flavour. The pizza crust was fantastic. There was a generous amount of pizza sauce as well as lots and lots of mozzarella and the ratios were perfect. We were served by Tony. He was an absolute gentleman! Didn't need to ask any questions, all the menus and promotions were explained to us without having to ask and he had a great knowledge of the place. He brought over water for us when he noticed our drinks were low when we didn't ask. He also offered different condiments and oils for us which went nicely with the pizza crust was a nice touch.

We (my partner & I) had visited Osteria some time before this most recent experience. It wasn't great at the time but we thought we'd give it another go seeing as it was so long ago and they've had some decent reviews since. What a silly thing to do?! We called ahead to enquire about tables as the town was pretty busy with Christmas shoppers; we were told "no problem", :see you soon" etc. God only knows who answered the call as when we got there, they seemed affronted at the suggestion we had called, denied knowledge but (with a stinking attitude) after a long wait, they could just about squeeze us in. From here on in, it is a bit on us seeing as we should've left but it was cold, we were hungry?! Also we hadn't realised how long we had been waiting & by this time we didn't have time to look for somewhere else. We did end up leaving hungry anyway as the food was foul. The starter of soup was no better than a cuppa-soup and, to add insult, was tepid. When we complained, the waiter looked harassed to the point we felt sorry for him & ended up telling him not to worry. You'd think though, that especially after that, they'd make some effort to get a hot main out on time. No. Instead they seemed to think they could get away with leaving us till last perhaps thinking we didn't mind?! I never thought a lasagne could ever be bland but mine was & my partner's fish was more rubbery than a JCB tyre. Again, complaints were met with a shrug from the waiter & with noticeably less apology in their expression. The manager obviously caught wind of our dissatisfaction and, without us asking to speak with him, came over to wave his hands and shout what can only be described as abuse at us! How dare we complain when they were good enough to give us a table?! We obviously haven't got a clue what we're talking about regarding Italian food?! I lived in Porta Venezia a few years ago and I can confidently say that what they served us what about as authentically Italian (and not even as good) as a Domino's pizza. Do not go here expecting anything close to an Italian meal, or even hot food?! Dire. To top it off, they added a service charge which they point-blank refused to remove despite our complaints with the service as well as the food?! Even though we'd left most of the food, we were prepared to pay for that, but not the extremely poor service! However, this seemed to send the manager into a blind rage & he then accused us of trying to steal? And saying something along the lines of "gay guys never want to pay for anything"?! Absolutely abominable. Do...

We had a table booked for a group of 7 so bearing this in mind when writing the review. The service on reception was OK, we were greeted and taken to our table as you would expect. It started to fall down hill pretty much from the drinks orders though. Very simple things that the servers just kept getting wrong.

Niggly things: they didn't provide one of our table with a glass for their bottle of sparkling water, never asked if any allergies, and never made an effort to check in on us.

The next more important bit...

They forgot 2 of the main meals that were ordered were missed - it happens, waiter disappeared after being advised and we never saw them again. 15/20 mins later we managed to grab another waiter to ask where the 2 other mains were as the rest of the table had finished. We were basically told we were forgotten about without an apology. No one checked on us for the entire meal otherwise they would have known to chase it up.

To top it off, once the 2 mains finally made it after everyone else had finished, we never saw any of the staff again until they started clearing up around us. No offer of dessert or more drinks. In fact, we had to make our way downstairs to try and get someone's attention to get the bill. Honestly felt like walking out without paying it was that poor.

Food quality was not brilliant for an Italian. I tried one of the pasta dishes (carbonara) and was very nice. My pizza was well below average so wouldn't suggest the pizza's if going here. Arancini balls tasted like they'd been kept in the freezer for a year before being heated up too. Focaccia bread was a garlic pizza -m so not focaccia...

Overall went away really disappointed...
