My family and I (4 people) had lunch there on Sunday morning on the terrace. The service was very bad. It was a sunny day, but the terrace wasn't full. So it wasn't like they were overwhelmed. Despite there was a table service, I had to go inside to order the food cause the waitress just didn't show up or when she did, she didn't pay attention and went back inside. I had to pay straight away. We had to take away the dirty dishes on our table, and the table was never wiped. Not cutlery was brought to the cable before the food as it should. When the young waitress brought two of the dishes, she didn't have any idea to what table she was going and she didn't even ask who was having what. So she just left the two plates in one corner of the table. She brought the other two, but still not cutlery. So we asked for that. We had to wait more than 5 minutes, with the food on the table already and then go inside and ask again for the cutlery. She was preparing it on a tray, but with not rush at all. When she came to the table with the cutlery, she pretty much through it on the table. After eating the food, we wanted to order some desserts. Again impossible to reach the waitres. I had to go inside and ask again for the tap water I asked for, 10 minutes before to another waitress who forgot about it. I ordered the desserts and paid for them. But they were left for me on the bar, despite there was one barman and two waitress. So I had to carry them to the table myself.
Basically we had to take away the dirty dishes from the table, go inside to order twice, ask for the cutlery and for tap water twice and then bring the desserts to the table myself. With all that, I was still charged almost "£10" for service charge!! I'm not sure exactly what for. The bill was around £110. The food was just ok. Honestly for the quality/amount of food, I wouldn't expect to pay more than £60-£70. The service charge seems like a joke after the experience. I worked in hospitality myself for over 10 years, so I can tell you that was a bad service. And I'm happy to tip the staff if the service it's been good, but this is the problem when it is already added on the bill, they just don't care about the service they give.
The place has amazing views, but unfortunately I would never...
Read moreAs an Invernessian, I feel entitled to say it: this place embodies Highland hospitality — not great.
We booked a table for 20 minutes before the kitchen closed, only after confirming over the phone that this was fine. On arrival, we were completely ignored and made to feel like a nuisance for turning up so close to the end of lunch — despite the prior agreement. Eventually, we were told we couldn’t have the indoor table we’d been promised and had to try our luck outside, where it’s first come, first served.
Thankfully, we found a table — which we then helped the clearly overworked waiter clear. As per their protocol, we ordered at the outdoor shed and settled in for what turned out to be a long wait. Some (not all) drinks arrived ahead of the food, and when our meals did turn up, we were told to fetch our own cutlery.
Now, I don’t actually mind the casual, self-service style — but with a 10% service charge slapped on the already overpriced menu, I can’t help but ask: what service, exactly, are we paying for?
The food was fine. Not bad, not great — just fine. Certainly not enough to warrant a return visit. If you’re after a nice view, by all means, go. But if you're hoping for genuine hospitality or value for money,...
Read moreIt’s a real shame as we have been a customer for approximately 10 years(only annually as and when we are on holiday). Infact on one occasion we had drinks with the owners and their family. The food was great previously but I cannot comment on this year as we cancelled our booking for Wednesday 14th August. Having had a quick drink on the previous Saturday afternoon and introduced ourselves we booked for the Wednesday evening (minimum spend would have been £250/£300) Having gone for a long walk we had a night cap on the Sunday evening also . Having been for a walk on Monday evening we popped in for a night cap at 21:25 (it is open until 22:00 hours ) there were two gentlemen having a pint , the open sign was still illuminated. We were greeted by a guy who said sorry we are closed! We said we just wanted a nightcap and you are open until 22:00 but it was a definite NO. What was worse is that a young lady who had previously served us and we believe is a family member agreed. A real shame but they are obviously making so much money they don’t need the custom...
