Popped into this bar last night – packed room, mostly white faces, atmosphere as warm as a tax audit. Ordered a drink for £30 (yes, thirty), which felt like paying for the privilege of being ignored.
I politely asked a few women if they fancied a dance – no takers, which was fine. Then, without a word of warning, a member of staff told me to leave. No explanation, just the sort of cold stare that says, “We don’t really want you here.”
Things took a surreal turn when a random white man, not employed by the bar, decided to play security and tried to put his hands on me. I declined his offer of unwanted touching. Once outside, he followed me and attacked me – clearly, his customer service training extends beyond the premises.
If you enjoy overpriced drinks, silent hostility, and the risk of being assaulted by strangers after closing time, this place is perfect. For everyone else, there are friendlier bars – and better drinks – just around the corner.

However visited this week and was horrified by the complete lack of Social distancing or covid protection measures in place. We were made to leave our details when ordering however no screens in place, bartender pointlessly wearing mask around his neck and people allowed to sit right beside each other at the bar while shaking hands. Very unfair to the many establishments that are trying so hard to follow all guidelines so that pubs will not have to close and some feel like they don't need to bother. Although the pub has such a historic interior, it feels contemporary (in a good way) with red lighting and candles on the tables at night and a great, modern beer selection complimented by excellent cocktails.
