We arrived at the restaurant for our 7.30pm booking and were seated at a table nearest to the kitchen / toilets. I could see that there was a spare table for two at the back end of the restaurant, which was a much nicer position. I asked if we could have that table and was told we couldn't as they were fully booked and needed to move the tables together. Clearly this wasn't the case as there wasn't enough space to put another table in. Another table for two came free within a few minutes of us sitting down and I asked if we could have that one, which got the same reply. We were the last people to be seated that night and the second from last to leave, at 8.15pm. People came in after us and were turned away as they were fully booked yet there were several empty tables that never got filled and we overheard the waitress telling a customer that they had no one else in that night. We confronted the waitress when we asked for the bill as to why she wouldn't let us have a better table when clearly there was no- one else in and was told that they needed to move them for the next day. Absolute rubbish they just didnt want to oblige us! We only had a main course as we weren't very happy at being lied to and treated like idiots. The food was fine but nothing inspiring and the chicken was overcooked. There is no atmosphere in this restaurant and clearly no passion. It is dated and traditional and there are far more interesting places in Inverness to go to. Sorry Urquharts, you need to up your game to get our vote. Very...
Read moreWe heard good things about this restaurant and were particularly interested in the venison burgers, so off we went. We called ahead but had no problem getting a table for lunch on a sunny Saturday in August. The restaurant is on the less touristy side of the River Ness - a good thing for us, but it's just across the bridge so not far in any case. There are stairs to get to the second floor restaurant. The entrance and sign seemed a bit worn, which made me wonder a bit, but we went up anyway. Glad we did!
The service was quick and attentive, though not as warm and friendly as other restaurants. The atmosphere was nice but kind of predictable restaurant decor, nothing memorable. We tried the haggis fritters to start and they were really tasty. Both of our first taste of haggis. The venison burgers were amazing. Juicy and flavorful and not gamey at all. The various cheese options were nice complements to the burger. One of the best burgers we've ever had! The sides of chips and vegetables were good but the coleslaw was super heavy on the mayonnaise. It was pretty good value for money - two drinks, a shared appetizer, and two burgers with an extra side each was £51. It was a good experience overall and we...
Read moreWe were able to get last minute reservations in this surprising gem of a restaurant. The waitresses were all very friendly and accommodating too, since we were pressed for time. The wine measures are very generous which is just what I needed, and my partner had a great meal from beginning to end with a black pudding starter and jaw dropping burger with giant size chips that were cooked to perfection. I too had a nice haggis starter, but the wheels kind of came off when it came to the mixed grill. I really didn't feel that it was very good value for money since the steak is not a good cut at all and instead of chicken, the more budget option of liver is served alongside a sausage and black pudding. The onion rings were swimming in oil, I had to remove them from my food to save the meat and only managed to soak my napkin through and get an oil slick on the table. Even then they fell straight to bits once we tried them, which was such a disappointment considering how happy we were to see some hand battered rings front and center. It wasn't perfect but what was good, was really very good so made the bad parts all the more...
