Very nice place would recommend! The food is good value for money and very enjoyable too, the staff were very friendly and attentive too!
In the Rocpool we ordered: Tomato and Basil Risotto, Parma Ham Salad and Cream of Cauliflower Soup, (starters). Then we ordered Battered Fillet of Hake, Oriental Chicken Salad, Monkfish and Rice (main meal). For desert we had Coconut, Blueberry and Almond Cake, as well as the Creme Brule.
Since there is a lot of food here I won't criticise them separately in paragraphs but I will give some important points on the dishes.
Start of with the starters. I absolutely loved the starters they were are amazing and everyone enjoyed what they got. I had the tomato and basil risotto which was creamy and delicious and I could've eaten a huge bowl of this. The soup had a distinctive taste of truffle oil and felt very luxurious, it was tasty and silky and wasn't over seasoned. The salad was delicious. It tasted fresh and the pears were succulent yet still had a bite to them.
The main meal was a slight disappointment, don't get me wrong they were delicious as separate dishes but together the dish just didn't seem to come together. The oriental chicken salad wasn't bad but wasn't great. To me it was too sweet and just didn't match well with the cashews. The crisp on the chicken was really nice though. The hake was delicious and we could not fault it. The monkfish and rice, like the oriental chicken, the separate components were very tasty but as a dish it didn't really come together. Despite this all three dishes were pretty great.
The deserts really made the three course meal. The cake was fluffy, soft and nice but really I thought the creme brule was the best desert. It had a great crackle on the top and the custard just melted in my mouth. It was divine.
Overall great place to come and eat. The staff are super kind but I would advise you too book online as it is quite busy.

Read moreUp there with some of the best meals I have eaten. Indulgent and refined, I went there for a quick early bite thinking I needed a dry night, hadn't checked reviews. Just came top in Google and first comments looked promising. The bread when it came told me to expect better than average, the waitress was well prepared, really good knowledge, very personable and not a hint of arrogance, it is so good in somewhere trying to sell good food and wine, it makes it accessible. Imagination's "just an illusion" playing in the background and then the wine list, wow, superb choice by the glass and bottles, I had a seafood plan so chose a cracking glass of alborino, which set up the hand dived scallops, chorizo sausage and creme fraiche nicely they should offer these as a platter for the glutton 😊 this was followed by a special, a beautiful piece of Scrabster cod on a Arbroath smokie risotto, so good I had to ask for more bread to mop up with, I knew at this point dessert was inevitable, what to have, great choices that would have kept absolutely everyone happy and large enough that you could offer a taster to your dining mates, maybe not too many of them though! chocolate mouse with orange and PX soaked sultanas, if you have never had PX, I liken it to Christmas pudding in a glass it is seriously sweet and good and will keep the winter at bay, what to have with it? A glass of px 🤔 Waitress to the rescue we have some of a very special PX not on the list, bloody result, that didn't get lost with the one on the plate and complemented it brilliantly. stunning, a good mousse is a real show of craft really simple but nowhere to hide. if this is the start of a new generation of food places in the Highlands then these guys and seafood shack in ullapool are going to be catalysts for it. You could argue that some of it could have been lighter, but that would miss the point, I felt like the bib gourmand at the end and all the better for the indulgence, it considers people and their celebrations first and this is as it should be. I will be back,...
Read moreI honestly can't remember the last time I felt so utterly dismissed and disappointed by a restaurant experience. What was meant to be a celebratory anniversary dinner turned into a frustrating, uncomfortable evening that left us both upset and out £150.
To start: the service was virtually nonexistent. After our initial order was taken and the food was brought out, we were completely abandoned. No one came to check in, no one asked how the meal was, and we were never offered more drinks — not even once. We tried to make eye contact, signal, anything but were entirely ignored. When I mentioned this at the end of the night, the waitress casually told me they "don’t do check backs.” l That’s not a quirky policy that’s just bad service.
As for the food, it was just as disappointing. The lamb was aggressively, unpleasantly salty completely unbalanced and borderline inedible. We managed to get through maybe 10% of it before giving up entirely. We wanted to order something else instead, but since no one came by the table, we were stuck. Sitting there, hungry, frustrated, and ignored.
Then there was the added bonus of a baby at the next table screaming directly into my ear for most of the night. The staff clearly saw this happening repeatedly and chose to do nothing. I understand restaurants are public spaces and families dine out, but when the atmosphere becomes that disruptive, it’s the staff’s job to step in and manage the experience for all guests. Instead, they seemed indifferent.
The only reason this review isn’t a flat 1-star is that they did, eventually, take the lamb off the bill. But let’s be honest that’s the absolute bare minimum. £150 for a ruined anniversary and a meal we couldn’t finish leaves a bad taste in anyone’s mouth and not just from the insanely salty lamb.
I'll never go back. Which for them isn't a big deal. But they ruined my anniversary with my wife which is a...
