I travelled to Inverness with my son to celebrate my birthday with one of my best friend and her family. As I follow a carnivore lifestyle, they decided your restaurant was the best place to visit on the day. Food: when it finally arrived was delicious and nicely presented however I asked for a blue steak— and it certainly was more rare than blue. Kids meals looked great, however plates for little ones would be more ideal than bowls.. French fries would be more convenient too for little hands as they cool of quicker.. same goes for the giant and delicious looking fish fingers. Just remember you cater for small hands and mouths when it comes to children’s menu. Overall food was lush but there’s room for improvement. My meal was meant to be gluten free and still arrived with the gluten contaminated fries on the side.. luckily in a totally separate bowl not on my plate with my steak..
Service— I worked over 10 years in hospitality, the service was shockingly bad.. on arrival they said we booked for one less person than we’ve arrived with, which in my eyes in an almost empty restaurant shouldn’t have been a problem. Push a chair and a 2 person table to the already setup table.. easy.. instead they were happy to watch us struggle with kids on our lap and such.. we were never given a drinks menu on arrival but was expected to order a drink 3 mins of sitting down. Our drinks took about 20-25 mins to arrive- just to emphasise, there were 3 tables in the whole restaurant to attend to.. no excuse for such a delay. If they’d taken our food order at the same time as they took our drinks order I would have changed getting the food done than the drinks and that’s just not acceptable. We were never informed of the specials on the day or to see special offers on the board near the ladies toilet.. only found it when I was taking my son to the bathroom.. you have to educate your staff on service standards because they’ve put a huge dampener on our experience within the restaurant.
Atmosphere- wasn’t very upbeat, the waitresses couldn’t be bothered to deal with us properly and there were flies & wasps flying around inside which made me very uncomfortable. It’s also very unhygienic..
I’d return and I’d recommend because of the food, not because of the service nor the atmosphere. What could have been an amazing experience was ruined by your staff’s...
Read moreWe booked for 2 ppl for dinner at 20.00 sharp. We waited 10/15 minutes for our table to be ready for us (btw we noted another couple arrived after us that got accommodated ahead of us). After getting the table, we waited another 15 minutes to order the drinks. They arrived after 20-25 minutes again and only then we were asked if we were ready to order food. The cocktails we ordered were ok but had to wait a long time for a glass of coke and a glass of tap water. Not a bottle or a jug, a glass. As starters, we ordered a fish chowder (cullen skink, which is a Scottish traditional dish) and a cold seafood platter. They arrived in like half an hour. The cullen skink was not bad but a bit watery and less tasty compared to other restaurants around Scotland; the seafood platter was the most interesting part of the meal. Then "the kitchen was a bit behind" and we waited almost an hour for the mains. The waiters apologised, but still: an hour? My girlfriend was so disappointed that she suggested to ask for the order to be cancelled, to request the bill and leave. I wish I listened to her. Anyway, she had ordered roasted duck breast, which was barely lukewarm, albeit tasty, which came with a so called hot pot with potatoes, peas and pork sausage. Now, why serve duck with pork? It did not make much sense. But the dish I ordered was the main reason for me deciding to write this review: despite the description fit what I received, I could not grasp the reality of the dish I got. That is to say, plain egg noodles seasoned with too much tabasco (just generously sprinkled on top) used as a base for a mild cod and pack choi with no condiments that I can't even remember if they was roasted or steamed. It seemed that there were no real ideas behind the dishes, and that the place is a glorified burger joint. We had the impression that it's always fully booked only because it's in a "prime" spot along the river and tourists really only order their burgers and chips. We decided not to order any desserts because we didn't want to wait any further. Overall, prices are not proportioned to the food quality. We had been really looking forward to eating here. We were in Inverness a couple of years ago but hadn't booked, and of course had to have dinner at a regular pub. This time we had booked well in advance and had high expectations. Such a pity we were...
