I've been to Ambulo both here and at Western Park Museum. Both are decent, solid cafés - fine if you're at the museum anyway, but not worth a special trip. Solid 3*.
However, we went to Ambulo at the Millennium Gallery recently and were incredibly disappointed by the kids' meal deal. Usually, it's ÂŁ4.50 for a sandwich, bag of Seabrook crisps, 2-finger KitKat, Cawston Press juice, fruit, and yogurt - on the expensive side, but not by a lot. This time though, we only got the KitKat and crisps, and an inferior juice, and the activity box was absent. The sandwich alone is ÂŁ2.50, so we were effectively charged 65p for each of these.
The fact that each retail for 30-40p is somewhat immaterial - one expects a markup - but the fact that we were charged the same for less - losing out of the healthier components - is incredibly frustrating.
The worst part is that the staff didn't seem to care, and just shrugged, confirmed that there's supposed to be more, but made no offer of an alternative.
If you're in the museum, do yourself a favour and head up the escalator to the Winter Garden and eat in Zooby's. You'll get far better...
Read moreMe and a couple of friends have been here last weekend. I personally like the place and been couple of times, nice crumpets and breakfast options. We ordered our food and mine arrived in 15 minutes whereas my friendâs was half an hour for avocado on toast (?). Then she realised there was coriander in avocado mixture and on top of the toast as well, which is disappointing because coriander has such a strong and awful taste for people who hates it. On top of this, this isnât mentioned in the menu at all, so if you order an avocado toast be prepared to eat lots of coriander. When mentioned, they offered to change it, but the second plate was exactly same avocado spread mixed with coriander minus the coriander on the top! They forgot to bring order of my other friendâs, when arrived an hour later, poached eggs were solid eggs and avocado was still the same mixture even though she said no coriander either! It...
Read moreA nice cafĂ©, near the train station, at the entrance of the millennium gallery. The interior of the cafĂ© is very nice, there is an emphasis on a flowery vibe with a cyan and pink colour code. The cafĂ© has a window facade. There is a lot of seating available. The cafĂ© is definitely not as busy as Tamper Sellers Wheel so no wait needed. The staff who was taking my order at the till seemed to be new and didnât seem to know how to use the till properly because she asked her colleague for advice. I ordered the Eggs Royale which costed ÂŁ10.50, not the cheapest Eggs Royale I must say but it tasted nice. The canton earl grey which costed ÂŁ2.50, was a standard earl grey tea. Overall, a good location and not a bad experience. The price for the meal...
