Piccolino used to be one of my favourite restaurants in Sheffield so I picked it for my birthday yesterday but unfortunately it was a very disappointing dinner. To start with they didn’t have 3 of the wines we wanted so wa had to go just for a random one as the choice was very limited. Then We ordered olives calamari and courgette fries for starters. Olives were good and calamari were good although we didn’t get a lemon with it. The courgette fries were cold, and also a small portion compared to what it used to be and what’s e had had in Manchester and what can even be seen in photos of other reviews from just a few days ago. After mains we ordered our mains, or.. shall I say - attempted to…We had had a delicious truffle lasagna in Piccolino in Manchester a few days prior and were thinking about it ever since. That was also one of the reasons we picked this place for my birthday. So we ask for that lasa gna for our mains, But guess what? They didn’t have any lasagna left. Then we were like okay.. let’s have the truffle pasta, since we can’t stop thinking about those truffles. No truffle pasta either. In fact no truffle anything. So we got two fillet steaks.. They used to make this amazing mushroom sauce some time ago but not anymore, this time it’s just truffle butter which honestly did nothing for me. We both ordered two exactly the same steaks medium well done. My boyfriends steak was great pink in the middle and juicy. My steak though was tough chewy and very well done. I Did mention this to the waitress when she asked but couldn’t be bothered to wait for a new one since we waited so long for our mains. Besides she didn’t offer that.. the best thing about this dinner was a surprise birthday cake with a candle and staff singing happy birthday to me. Very lovely and special and the cake was surprisingly very nice. Apart from not offering me a new steak out waitress was very lovely and we did really like her so we still paid the service charge although to be fair the kitchen really messed...

Went for my sons birthday meal (although restaurant didn't know) we as a family travelled quite a distance to come here... Maitre D' was fab on arrival gave such a lovely vibe made to feel special so thank you to him! lovely seating spot they gave us outside in the corner too then passed us to George our waiter... one of us waited 10 mins after everyone else for their drink it was forgotten by a lady waiter presumed from the bar after 5 minutes got George's attention he apologised but throughout the 2 hours there we did have problems getting our waiters attention he was chatting elsewhere to people on other tables (came across as regulars) maybe because we was on a corner table? food was nice but one of our side dishes got missed with the mains we asked twice about it was told sorry they're busy but at least they apologised... was asked if food was ok yes it was... we stayed 2 hours did plan on staying longer but only had one drink each as stated before had trouble summoning waiter maybe as said earlier we was put on a corner table outside?... 3 out of 5 of our glasses they brought us from the bar were not very clean and 3 out of 5 small water glasses on the table when we arrived had lipstick marks on... 2 of us left our drinks we did not say anything wasn't worth trying to get waiters attention again or saying anything as wasn't asked if we wanted anything like drinks or desserts etc and not worth trying again to get waiters attention :( all in all we were so looking forward to this meal as not been out in over two years as a family wanted what we thought was a special 'upper end restaurant' food was nice but service and above let it down for us... will not be...

Started off as a nice experience with a good atmosphere. Tomato garlic bread was really nice and they made the effort to make a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu.

Until the mains came…

Quite literally the worst tagliatelle bolognese I have ever seen or had. The food was cold and the tagliatelle was uncooked and still hard. Hardly touched the food as it was a massive disappointment. Had the cheek to try and charge nearly £20 each for something that wasn’t as nice as a shop bought microwaveable ready meal.

We didn’t initially want to complain about the food but it was unfair to pay for something of such poor quality. The waiter noticed we weren’t eating the food and asked what was wrong. After we explained he took the food away and asked if we wanted something else off the menu. By this point we were well past it so instead waited 20 minutes for a bill which never came until we asked again.

They supplemented the 2 drinks due to the poor quality food but left the food on the bill. I am physically unable to comprehend why I am paying for the things that we didn’t enjoy and hardly even touched rather than the things we actually did? When we explained this to the waiter he became increasing more rude and ignorant before going over to the other side of the restaurant to talk about us with other staff members who we visibly saw looking and laughing. I am also struggling to understand what on gods green earth is funny about their absolutely ‘anging food.

Never again thank...

Picolino in Sheffield is a really beautifully designed space…. very aesthetic, with a relaxed and welcoming vibe throughout. The staff were great from the moment we arrived, friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which made for a nice start to the evening. Drinks were spot on, offering a wide selection and well made, so definitely somewhere I’d return for a few drinks in stylish surroundings. That said, the food was a bit of a letdown. The dish I wanted was unavailable, no issues with that in itself, but I only found out when ordering….after spending 10–15 minutes looking over the menu with our drinks. It would make a big difference to the guest journey if the team let people know upfront about any unavailable items when handing out menus. What we did order was decent, but it lacked the depth of flavour you’d hope for at this price point, and didn’t feel like great value for money. It slightly took the shine off what was otherwise a lovely atmosphere and service. Could’ve just been a bad day in the kitchen….who knows. Would definitely go back for drinks and the setting, but I’m on the fence about returning for food.
