Cavells Café Bar — Restaurant in Sheffield

I've been going to Cavell's for years and have always enjoyed it. The food used to be very nice and good value for money. And the allergens were clear, on the menu or communicated from the staff. However, I went for lunch yesterday with plans to go the The National Videogame Museum afterwards. I asked one of the members of staff if the New York Chicken is gluten free. The waitress went to check and came back to let me know it was, except the onion rings. So I ordered it without the onion rings. It came out with onion rings on. When I sent it back the chef wanted to take the onion rings off and give the same dish back. It was a waiter who argued that the plate was contaminated and needed doing again. The dish seemed to be made again however, either it was the same contaminated dish or something else on that plate contains gluten. I had to go home and spent the rest of the afternoon unwell. I spent £10 on a dish I only ate half of because the carelessness of the chef put me on edge as to whether it was actually GF or not. My ticket to the NVM was wasted because I had to go home. Absolutely DISGUSTED with the way my grandparents were treated by the management of this place. They have been coming to this cafe most days for many years and have spent a lot of money in this very overly priced cafe. My grandma who unfortunately has dementia got confused about having to wait in the doorway to be seated due to covid and she went straight to sit on her regular table, she was then told that she is bared and that she has been causing a lot of problems and was Marched out along with my grandad. When we tried explaining the situation the management didn’t care. This place IS NOT dementia/elderly friendly. And the whole situation should have been dealt with...
