I went with my family on a Saturday around 9:45am for desi breakfast. There were 7 of us. We got a table upon entering.
We were greeted by I believe the owner who took our order and advised us what he recommended. Ordering separately rather than their small/large meals made more sense as there were a few of us and we don't necessarily eat so much, so if you're in a similar situation I'd recommend sharing, you waste less.
We ordered: Puris, Channai, halwa, plain paratha, desi omlette, spice desi omlette (which came with chicken in a pizza shape), sweet lassi & water for everyone.
The halwa was quite dry, you'll see from my picture attached, it should have been more juicy. In having puri channai for a breakfast, they both have to be on point as they're both "stars of the show", if one is off the rest becomes off, and unfortunately the channai disappointed. See my image attached, they were too runny/tomatoey, the sauce was tangy and the chickpeas were hard. This let the whole desi breakfast experience down. The Pizza omlette (image attached) was also disappointing, it's not something I'd opt for in a breakfast early morning.
On the contrary, the sweet lassi was lovely, I couldn't finish it the serving size was pretty big. The paratha was delicious, so crispy and the puris were fantastic.
Parking on London road in the AM is easy, plenty of spots on main road or side streets to pull into.
The service was friendly however, when we asked for more tissues, the gentleman questioned whether we already had tissues. I found this odd because we were eating oily foods so of course you need a little more than usual given the food and mess it creates.
Overall I give it a low 3/5 and would not recommend the channai or halwa. The rest of what my family...
Read moreWe went in for breakfast and the quality of food is quite good. The portions were reasonable and the food was good. We ordered Desi Breakfast, Spicy Chicken Omelette, aloo paratha, naan and Desi chai.
However, surprisingly when I asked for tap water, they said they don't give. That's a first in Sheffield where a restaurant doesn't provide tap water and this in turn forces you to buy the water. I have been to a lot of restaurants in Sheffield and have always been given tap water and as such, the tap water is safe to drink in the UK unless your source of water is contaminated which raises other questions as to what is being used to cook and clean. Nevertheless, it's small things like this that ruins a good experience.
Another thing is that usually when a restaurant serves aloo paratha, the condiments (yogurt, chutney, etc.) comes along with it and charged for any additional portion. However, it is quite surprising that you charge £1 for a portion of yogurt to go with the paratha. Apologies but this is complete rip off from your side.
Like I said, great food but experience can be enhanced and made better by improving...
Read moreWe came across this cafe by accident one Sunday afternoon whilst in Sheffield. And it was the best cafe I’ve been to by far serving traditional Pakistani breakfast! We learnt that the business is owned and run by a local family with traditional values when it comes to food. We ordered a variety of food from the menu and our host was a young lady who was happy to advise. The food was delicious to say the least. All freshly made with the traditional ingredients. This has now become one of my favorite places to eat especially as I love pratas. The halva / channa puri was good along with the nan kebab my husband ordered. The guys next to us were indulging in an omelette shared between two that too looked amazing! A reason to return to sample this on my next visit. This cafe with its simple yet with effective decor and music from my childhood to reminisce too. it was clean and a pleasant Surprise to us all. I would recommend this to any one who appreciates desi style breakfast cooked with a...
