I wanted to visit this place for sometime. I arrived on Thursday at 9am and it was only 10% busy, which was good for me as I had a wide selection of beautiful pastries to choose from. I wanted to try a savoury and a sweet item. However, the friendly staff made me aware that the chef was poorly so they were unable to fulfil my request.
I eat vegetarian, vegan and halal. I was happy to know that none of the pastries/bakes contained alcohol or gelatine, and a small number of the pastries/bakes were vegan. I decided to get the Pistachio croissant, Pistachio and raspberry bun, and a Matcha latte. The croissant had a good amount of filling, and tasted like kulfi ice cream (if you know, you know). The Pistachio and raspberry bun was a heavy little guy. I could taste real raspberries, but not a lot of pistachio if I’m being honest. However, I’m happy there were real pistachios inside the bun, and the bun itself had a slight sweet and rosy flavour which was interesting. In terms of hot or iced drinks, you have the choice of any milk, so I got skimmed milk in my Matcha latte. The latte itself is a good size and it did not taste grassy at all. Very pleased with this item.
This place does not offer student discounts, however I think you definitely get your money‘s worth as all the products that I’ve seen and tasted are of top quality. Therefore, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good...
Read moreCoffee quality exceptional. This is arabica coffee and the baristas are professional in their ability. Seating could be improved together with the general maintenance. Now my final comment is about the atmosphere. Well, today 25th May ‘25, the atmosphere was unpleasant. The choice and volume level of music was not conducive to the everyday coffee bar customer. I have no way of describing the music except that it would have been ok in the settings of a Torremolinos side street in the middle of August, and if it had been my first visit, I’d not be returning. I can not believe for one moment that the owner(s) are aware of some of the choices being made by some of the staff regarding the playlists. After all the Japanese are not exactly silly, in fact they’re way ahead in their thinking towards public areas. Then away from Japan, how about Italy? They would not dream of this sort of atmosphere in their thousands of coffee bars. If only someone started a campaign about noise levels in public areas, coffee bars etc, I’d be one of the first to support them. Barnsley have at least started some work, which is better...
Read moreSteam Yard is one of the best independent businesses in Sheffield. First and foremost, the staff. The hard work and energy that goes into running this place is second to none. The quality of customer service has always been the right choice for Steam Yard. The choice of products is high quality, from awesome coffee to local baked goods. I would recommend anyone take home some of the Caravan retail for home brewing. Could not be more proud of these guys who have struggled over the past few months to open but are doing so under different procedures to protect everyone with that true Sheffield grit. Before the public health crisis anyone who visited knows the wonderful hub Steam Yard is for meeting friends and family or even just coming to chill and get away from the world for a bit. Hopefully when it starts to recede we can see those tables packed again and all the wonderful atmosphere can return. Until then keep it up guys....
