Thaikhun Street Buffet — Restaurant in Sheffield

I had high hopes for this place given its new, its massive and in a prime location in Meadowhall. How utterly disappointing from the first impression of having to wait for a harried looking woman who honestly did not know what she was doing. She had to ask about 3 times who we were, what time we were there for etc. we had a reservation for 5 people.

The restaurant is hot. As in boiling from the heat of the atrium coming up and no AC. The food is an embarrassment to Thai food. It’s tasteless, lacking protein and not good. The jasmine rice was claggy and tasted off. The noodle dishes were messy and looked as tho no pride was taken. Most disappointing were the curries. Zero flavour. How is it possible to make Thai curry with no flavour? It was watery, no spice and no authenticity. The rest of the dishes were what you’d get in the worst British Chinese buffet. I was horrified with the sweet and sour chicken. It was made with cheap, chicken nuggets instead of pieces of chicken. The fried fish was greasy, lots of batter and no fish.

Please take this feedback in the spirit it is given. It’s not a good experience and Thaikhun can do better. Bulking out food with lots of cheap veg, processed chicken and watery sauce isn’t the way to go. If this is what you get for £19.95 then hard pass. Will not be going back.

Terrible place, happened to come here on a shopping trip for my daughter's birthday. She likes Thai food so we agreed to eat here. Lots of tables & chairs rammed into a tiny area, so no room for wheelchairs or buggies. Very claustrophobic, I couldn't even squeeze into my chair without moving the table into the walkway. When one of us wanted to get up for food we all had to get out of our seats to let the other one out. Ridiculous. The choice of food was pathetic for a buffet, not much choice at all. The deserts were worse, barely anything left & not refilled 2 hours before closing. Ice cream machine broken, no cakes, ice cream freezer empty, sweet stand dirty & mostly empty, people using their hands to touch the sweets. Popcorn machine had only a thin layer of popcorn & not refilled. I wasn't told my drink was refillable so I only had one drink. We each only had 1 plate of food as the consistency was awful & we left most of it. 4 plates of food & 3 glasses of coke £67. Complete rip off. Dirty, disgusting, expensive, empty & a complete lack of attention from any & all staff. Avoid...

We were shown a table with instructions about drinks. I didn't want fizzy drinks and ordered another. It cost me extra but the fizz was included and with refills! The plates were cold. Rice and noodles not much better. Mains were also not hot enough. The vegetable spring rolls looked OK, so I took just one. My friend also took one. It tasted fishy, so I went to enquire. The man looked at the label and said it was wrong. What? Something fish with a wrong label??? My friend is allergic to shellfish, so I ran back to tell her not to eat it. By this time the food was very cold and uneatable. We went for something different. That too was cold. We asked for separate bills, it was taking a long time. Another assistant came and we asked again separate bills. It took a long time to get out. I told the assistant about the "vegetable spring rolls " I don't think she believed me. So we went to the counter and she spoke to the man there. We only got a "very sorry." Of course we won't go back, and I don't advise anyone else...
