I'm not willing to give this place a bad rating, because I've been going for years and I've always had a good night here, but the last few times I've turned up to this place it's been near impossible to get in. I went on Saturday with a few of my friends, we queued for over half an hour, to be told we couldn't get in because 2 of us didn't have ID. I explained I had been coming regularly for pretty much the last 10yrs and that I was 31 yrs old. When I asked about the ID'ing policy I was given that patronising spiel of how the ID'ing policy works and that regardless of age everyone has to have ID. Firstly, I've worked in the bar industry long enough to know how ID'ing policy works, but I've also worked in the industry long enough to know how to use my common sense on such situations. Secondly, you have never ID'd all ages and it was never a policy previously, so why have you not got signs up advertising this, instead of having people queue for long periods of time. Finally I'd like to add, that the bouncers on your door on Saturday, were completely out of order, I was calmly asking questions around your ID'ing policy(which I have every right to do, when it has changed and Im unfamiliar with it), but they were really rude, arrogant and antagonising, telling me that I wasn't a regular, which is pretty disgusting considering how much I've spent in there. There is just no need for it, they're supposed to be there to protect your customers, not instigate trouble and alienate customers. I guess I'll have to ensure I bring my ID at all times when visiting...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat bar, lovely outdoor beer garden - Only spoiled by the bouncer on the door (Wednesday) There is nothing worse than a Bouncer asking for ID - Then myself showing both my student ID & Driving license for the bouncer to say "Why did you show me your student ID first? - sorry, I cant let you in". Despite showing both at the same time. 9/10 I have zero problems with The Washington, but half the time the bouncers try to rule the roost, But that is only 1 out of the many good times I have had at the washy. I literally showed my ID at the same time and she found fault with the first reason to not care, despite the same ID saying 32. I honestly feel like some bouncers just want to be seen doing their job or take it out on singles/Those with friends outside.
Not a great experience, when normally the bouncers & washy...
ย ย ย Read moreThe bouncer refused me entry with food leftover from a dinner beforehand as I didn't want to waste food. I assured him I wasn't going to eat any there and it would stay in my bag. He refused to let me speak to a manager when I asked. When the manager did come by they also refused me entry because I had food. The bouncer admitted the band was allowed food and snacks. But still denied me the opportunity to give my food to my friend in the band to put backstage. Absolute jobsworths on a power trip. The place was pretty empty on this icy cold January night. They've lost one of their few customers this evening. Extremely hostile. Don't dare go if you have any food or snacks in your bag even if you have no intention of...
