I love going in the White Lion, it is the friendliest pub in the area. I have never witnessed any trouble. The staff and locals are very amiable indeed and there is always a laugh to be had over a pint of Moonshine. I love the fact that there are nooks to hide yourself away in for a quiet pint and open areas for bigger get-togethers. Throughout the Summer there have been regular ale weekends and barbecues with people gathered in the garden at the back of the pub on a sunny afternoon. It's like a big family party with banter between the regulars, and if you are not a member of the White Lion family already, you won't feel excluded; anyone friendly is welcomed into the fold. There are not many pubs I feel I can go into on my own to read my book and just relax but I always feel safe in the White Lion. If you have not had a good experience before, give it another try. The toilets aren't state of the art but who judges a pub by its toilets? A good drop of ale, a selection of excellent whiskies, and warm and humorous company, that's what you want...
Read moreThe White Lion. Easy to miss as it's nestled between the rest of the buildings but to miss it would be to miss out. Admittedly this little place might not be everyone's "kind of thing" but it's definitely worth trying at least once. Good for a quick pint after the football, few on a Sunday afternoon or a night out. The place has real character that u only get from those old buildings and it's a good thing it hasn't changed to much from days gone by, don't get me wrong it's not "old and tired" it's more vintage if anything. Jam sessions and bands add to the character too. A fine selection of drinks include the usual plus there is also a selection of drinks you don't come across all that often in "chain" pubs. The staff on every occasion I've been in have been friendly. I genuinely can't fault the place, yes the beer garden is a tad small but even then it's not that bad.
I'll definitely be making the trip...
Read moreThe White Lion has been around as a historical and loved pub for centuries. Luckily the owners preserve its natural charm, and you can explore the brilliant layout of discreet tap rooms, side rooms and plotting parlours that are all still intact. It's reminiscent of being on an old train with dappled glass and small cosy spaces. There is a larger open area at the back as well, which often has live music on after about 8.30pm. There are two bars, several serving areas and a darts board, just in case you fancy throwing sharp objects around for fun. What more is there to love? Oh and it's super non judgemental, open to all, young, older, dressed up, dressed down and super safe for women too. Can fully recommend this authentic pub. Don't come here if you want expensive cocktails however and leather seats as you will be confused and disappointed. Plus a Labrador may lay on your...
