Before I start on my review of the food etc I want to start with the service we received from a young lady called Nas. Outstandingly helpful says it all. One of our group eats fish, but not meat or dairy and she bent over backwards to advise on dishes, sauces etc and in the end asked the chef to knock up a fresh mushroom sauce without any cream. Extremely patient, good rappor with customers, sense of humour...she is a credit to Oakley's. There is a good choice across the menu (not too good for vegans but good for vegetarians and great for meat eaters). Steak n ribs....lovely and tender, falling off the bone. Nice piece of steak. Burger...huge double burger made with tasty meat and good seasoning. Lamb....tender as could be with a rich gravy and seasonal veg. Mushroom fettuccine with king prawns...tasty and fresh, pasta cooked perfectly. Garlic bread....fresh and delicious. All our meals were served promptly and were piping hot. Large portions (I think we all left something as we were full...but not much). Not one single complaint about any of the food. Varied drinks menu but we were drinking champagne so we didn't explore this too much. When you walk through the front door you may be a little underwhelmed as it appears quite cafe-ish, but don't be put off. It's actually quite a large, quirky building...we sat upstairs overlooking the courtyard. We cannot recommend Oakley's enough...fantastic food and service...and we...
Read moreI've been a couple of times previously and everything has been fine but unfortunately things have changed. Our food didn't come for over an hour. We informed our waitress at the hour mark (after tables that entered 30 minutes ago had received their meals) and roughly 20 minutes later some of the food emerges seemingly having just been cooked. After roughly 20 more minutes some people's food still had not arrived and others food had gone cold waiting. We did prompt multiple staff at multiple times that we were waiting during the 2 hours we were there so people were aware. Speaking to staff apparently there are new cooks which rings true as a salad I had previously enjoyed tasted and looked like half a bottle of generic dressing had been dumped over it. I also overherd staff discussing that they have run out of basic ingredients.
During this the wait staff were less than helpful and making us feel like we had inconvenienced them by requesting we are served the meal we asked for as they constantly brought us the wrong food for the people still missing theirs. I will say that the person that initially greeted us and sat us was nice and seemingly the only staff member that seemed like they cared about their job.
Some of this i could have understood had the place been busy but when we arrived more than half the tables were empty. Clearly there have been changes made recently as I can no longer...
Read morePre pandemic my family were regulars at Oakley’s but that was the last meal we will be having there. After my daughters graduation at Skipton castle that day a nice meal out was in order, sadly that was not to be. The Calamari starter was a rather pathetic very underwhelming frozen type of effort. The mixed grill was £23 but came out minus a couple of things asked for the steak to be medium/rare and it was well done, the meats in general seemed to be from the cheaper end of the suppliers range. And I’m sorry but any restaurant that wants to be taken seriously shouldn't use frozen chips! A few strips of limp lettuce drizzled with a bit of balsamic vinegar doesn’t impress anyone. My daughters pasta looked like it had been cooked that morning and then microwaved & her side salad appeared to have been cut from the canal banking the previous week. I’ve only given them two stars because our waitress was so pleasant & even she seemed apologetic for the products being served. So for £98 for three people with two starters and three mains and no alcohol it seems a bit much for the quality on offer now. This restaurant used to be so good but I’ve now heard since from a couple of friends they have been rather...
