Maple Tree in Marple Bridge — Restaurant in Stockport

A Lovely time served waiter, I will start off with. Sadly & annoyingly their food poor./ lo standard. Nothing fresh looking, no stir fried crunchy veg in our dishes. Oh 3 squares of soggy green pepper. Not very hot. Small portion of rice pr person. The Prawn with ginger & spring onion dish tasted & looked very much like it was in an English chicken gravy granual mix. The best item was the 1 each ribs on our sharing platter for 2. The seaweed had a rancid oil 'impossible to eat' taste. Wine size was not offered or asked what size we would like. So £6+ for a large glass was whacked on the bill!!!! A shocking £75 bill & not itemized, for not very healthy, very over priced food that we talked about thoroughly with the OWNER politely, several times throughout the meal. Owner even warned us not to choose anything with cashews as they are deep fried 1st too.. What!!! No offer of a reduction or re-cooking, at all, despite our clear disappointment, just the comment.. "When you come back I make better for you". Really!!! &. take £75 off us!! I do not think so!! ) Almost equiv of 4 persons say at Jasmine in Chorlton) We can both cook, we both love our food, adore eating out & had been sooo looking forward to trying somewhere new & supporting local,after working sooo hard & not meeting up for soo long. We deserve, Everyone deserves far better than the food served here) Puzzled how a restaraunt can survive serving such poor quality food. We had an early evening meal booked on christmas eve, The drinks came and then we waited and waited to order our food. There were 2 set menus one £40 and the other £45. No coffees on the menu. We ordered our choices and the first course came, this was lovely, the 2nd course arrived that too was delicious, the main course arrived for 4 of us but not the 5th person. The rest were half way through their meals before we could speak to anyone about the missing meal. We asked sunni where the meal was. He argued that there was only one portion of the meal ordered,. After a little confrontation the 5th ,meal finally arrived when the rest of the party had almost finished their meal. The waiting on staff were clueless. When clearing away the 2nd course one of the girls dropped a dirty plate on one of the diners knee leaving some of the left overs of spare ribs on their knee. I know accidents happen but more care required. We have been many times and had some really good meals there but never again. Firstly why argue that a meal was not ordered when it obviously was. Could he not see that only 4 of us were eating? . The customer is always right. Not at the Maple Tree obviously. I know it was christmas eve but there was not £40 worth of food on our table. We had with us relatives from Canada visiting us for christmas. They were really disappointed at the service and the argument over a late meal. Visiting for 1st time 28th Oct 2023 Very warmly greeted. We had the set meal and the food was cooked to perfection and plenty of it as the food just kept arriving on the table. A good selection of drinks were available. We were a party of 8 plenty of room around the table, nice comfatable atmosphere in the restaurant which was very busy. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, and as for the proprietor what a Really nice person Sunny is. He kept checking to see that everything was ok. This was our first visit and it most certainly will not be the last. Hopefully we will be back in December to try more of Sunnys great food. The ribs are really something to be seen and eaten, proper ribs with plenty of meat on them not like you get from your local Chinese chippy. The occasion was Sandra's birthday and Sunny played happy birthday to Sandra on his harmonica while the rest of us sang happy birthday to her. I feel like I have made a new friend in Sunny in making us most welcome, and what a really nice and sincere man he is. An excellent experience all round and I would definitely recommend the Maple Tree Restaurant. It is easy to find on the main street in Marple Bridge.
