I've been mithered and mithered by this pub to come and use a 50% voucher, that expired this Thursday. Daily emails counting down the days, so as it was my birthday this week we decided to have a treat and drove the 5 miles over from Glossop after a 10 hour day in work, only to be told it was totally full and at no point in the evening could we be accommodated. I accept that it looked busy, except there were plenty of tables in the bar area and perhaps as we'd come some distance we might have been served as a courtesy. As it was, given there's nowhere else between Marple and Glossop I had to drive to Hattersley and have a sub-standard meal at the Mottram Wood, on the plus side they were friendly and had plenty of tables.

Unfortunately I'm too busy in my job to know what time I get home, so I don't have the luxury to book a table for a particular time so the long and short is we just won't come here again because it's too far to come to be turned away, and people don't answer the phone in pubs if you phone to ask as they are too busy. It's really an example of a pub that is issuing promotions they simply can't handle, and then turning away the very customers they asked to come in the first place, and that's what has really annoyed me I think.

I will add this is a nice pub if you can get a table, but I can only review based on tonight's experience. So all I can advise is don't waste your time coming if you haven't booked, you may well be turned away. (This was a midweek visit in January, traditionally a 'dead' time for pubs! Who knows what it's like at...

We have been going here for years and also had a great experience however last Sunday the service was that bad we will not ever be going back.

Food was amazing, 2 sunday lunches and a bottle of wine we ordered. We sat down and ordered a bottle of wine which was literally dumped on our table by the very rude waitress. We called her back and asked if that was the way she usually served a nice bottle of wine. She advised it was uncorked at the bar then proceeded to walk away. This is going to sound really petty but when you are in a restaurant and you would expect someone to open the wine at your table and ask if you would like to taste it, then pour a bit out for you. I understand people are busy but rudeness is unacceptable.

The general manager came over and addressed the situation as a training exercise but the table next to us said they had been served the same way, and she had worked there for a while. We are not complainers usually just very honest people and if you want to go for somewhere to eat but treat like trash then get down there for your lunch.

Although it was addressed that there were a training issue we were not even offered a drink or dessert as a goodwill gesture. Not that we are looking for a free ride.. anyhow they have lost our custom and our families which in the hospitality business they could do with all the customers they can...

Came here for my birthday as I've been before and really liked it. This time was really disappointing though and I'm not sure i'll return again. When we arrived most tables were dirty and the waiting staff were also really slow, even though it's bar service and you have to go up and order yourself, which also isn't great but understandable due to the climate of hospitality. We asked our waitress to wipe the table down and didn't see her again until she was bringing drinks out, so my mum had to get the stuff and do it herself. I ordered scallops to start, I wanted the chilli and garlic king prawns which are still on the menu on the website, but they weren't on the menu when we went so again, this was disappointing. The scallops weren't nice either, they tasted undercooked and everything that came with them was flavourless, I had to send them back which I rarely do but they were inedible. The man with the long blonde hair was really nice though and asked if I wanted something else or another drink or anything but I was okay. The Sunday dinner was nice as always but everything else was bang on or below average. Not even any music on outside or atmosphere on a sunny day. Might have just been an off day but wasn't worth the drive out to Marple on a bank holiday. Sad because it's such...

Very, very, very slow service and if that wasn't bad enough there was no interest in the customers at all! It wasn't busy either. Food was overcooked and bland. The calamari was rubbery and bland. The duo of Pork was barely edible and the sea bass was supermarket bought fillets that were again, overcooked and ridiculously small. 5.85 for a side of Asparagus, you guessed it, overcooked and bland and 4 tips was all we got. Massively overpriced. No staff checked wether we were happy with our food, no apologies for forgetting parts of our order and 145 quid down the drain. Tried talking to staff about these issues but they're not interested.

If I'm honest, I think 3* is being generous for the prices charged. We went for lunch and had the set menu. The starters were pretty good (although I'd question why every item, apart from the soup, has alcohol in it?!). We then had a steak sandwich and the hummus/veg sandwich... they are served on huge chunks of focaccia that suck out any moisture in the food. It's never a good thing to have a 50:1 ratio of bread to sandwich filling! Maybe we chose badly and the other mains that didn't come with a block of sponge-like bread might have been more better.

Beautiful interior with cosy seats! It was our first visit & came for a spot of lunch. We had Diablo pizza, dirty burger & a side of chunky chips and onion rings. Can't understand why the burger was almost £19; it wasn't anything particularly special and the chunky chips were a tad underdone. However the pizza was lovely, and the onion rings had a light, crisp batter that wasn't too greasy. The cocktails were very nice, we could've sat there for hours overlooking the goyt had we not made other arrangements for the late afternoon.
