I booked an afternoon here to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday since he loves his beer. Really wasn't sure what to expect for only £12.50 each and we travelled a good 90 minutes to get there so I was crossing my fingers for something special.... and it was! What a fantastic place! We were 20 minutes late on account of the traffic but the team were so kind to wait for us as there was a group of other people on our booking also (they, too, were very understanding). We were told all about the brewery, how it came to be, and the people behind it - very lovely to have this intro and hear about the story behind the business. Mark continued on to explain the ins and outs of all things beer - how it's made, the different kinds, what ingredients they use and why. As someone who is not particularly interested in beer, I found it extremely fascinating so my dad was like a kid in a sweet shop. The 4 very different beers we drank during Mark's talk were all included within the price and had very unique tastes; there is certainly a lot to be said for the creativity of these brewers! To top off a great tour, Mark and John presented my dad with two as-of-yet unreleased beers as a 'happy birthday' - something that meant a great deal to him and to me. These guys literally made his day - it was so heartwarming for me to see, and for 12 quid you would be absolutely MAD not to give them a visit. Brilliant day out, brilliant beer, brilliant blokes. Thanks...
Read moreOne of the UK’s best brewery taps. Runaway Beers always taste so fresh; fresher still since they switched to the crisper Stockport water. The Honest Crust pizzas are absolutely wonderful. Even better is the actual venue and all of the staff who work there. Runaway is now open on a Sunday too, giving the people of the North West and beyond even better access to a true great.
My only criticism, which isn’t the fault of Runaway, is the occasional creep of the bizarre practice of customers queuing single file around the venue rather than just queuing at the bar as has been normal for the past 150 years. Runaway usually have at least 3 wonderful, friendly and knowledgable staff serving behind the bar so I don’t know why people queue single file, which it makes it more difficult for those fabulous staff to serve customers.
Anyway, what a fantastic company and brewery tap. Keep up...
Read moreA great place to drink good beer. Just round the corner from the travelodge where I was staying. Decor is not fancy but that’s not what you are here for. I tried both beers on the pumps: a Czech style dark lager and a “farmhouse” pale ale. Both excellent in their own way and not overpowered by citrusy hops as is often the case nowadays. They have a good selection of other beers. The drinks menu also lists wines, though I didn’t see anyone drinking them! As regards food, just step in to the beer garden (it was too cold to drink there on February) where the pizza oven is, order one and it will be delivered to your table. If you are travelling to/ from or transiting via Manchester airport on a Thursday through Saturday , the travelodge/Runaway Brewery is a good combo. Bus 199 is a regular service which will take you to/from the...
