We decided to go as we were in the area and I'd seen good reviews. Lovely old pub with history, very busy with people eating and drinking. I think we went on a bad night, only 2 staff were serving and both were also clearing plates and taking out food. They looked rushed off their feet and not very organised, our food arrived quicker than expected with it being so busy. We ordered the tri of fish cakes, partner said chips were lovely and were real but the fish cakes were dry, i did think that as i saw him cut into them, he said they tasted like they had been kept warm in something for to long. I had a smokie burger, and upgraded to sweet potato fries. The burger was very nice, the bacon was nice thick good quality i enjoyed it. I thought the fries looked burnt as my plate was put down but as I've only had them a couple of times before i wasn't sure and obviously thought they wouldn't send out over done fries. They were definitely over done, i could only eat a few, the thinnest ones were rock hard. Portion sizes were good. If it had just been one or the other that was overcooked we would of just thought it was a one off but for both meals to arrive with something overcooked not sure if they regularly server food like this. Our two meals averaged at over £10 each, so not expensive but not cheap either. It's a shame when you pick somewhere due to good reviews but feel let down when you go and don't have a good experience. We both work full time and enjoy going out to eat and finding good local places on a weekend but on this occasion the meals we received i wouldn't recommend to anyone...
Read moreHaving been a customer at The Greyhound for a good number of years, tonight my husband and I decided to drop in for a meal and they were able to accommodate us at short notice. The service is incomparable, the staff being polite and professional, friendly and helpful. The menu comprises of a wide range of food and the standard is incredible. My husband had the 'spicy jack' a double quarter pounder with sliced chorizo on a brioche and came with onion rings and home made chips. I ordered the vegetable lasagne, which is incredible.. it's not often that a lasagne is made fresh and with fresh vegetables, but this is...with a nice amount of 'bite' to the onion and green pepper...no sloppy veg in this meal, served with a generous slice of garlic bread, this meal wasn't just tasty, but hit all the right spots and is proper comfort food. We'll definitely be going back, and maybe next time add in one of their incredible desserts (the people on the next table ordered the Malteser cheesecake, which came with extra Maltesers, chocolate sauce and a generous portion...
Read moreWe were visiting relatives in the area and needed a nice pub for lunch where we could bring both of our dogs. I googled and found this. I called at 12pm when they opened and the lady that answered was so friendly and helpful. We went in at 2pm and she sat us at a great table in the corner which gave the dogs space to lay down comfortably and not be in the way. Such a dog friendly pub with the boys getting several treats each and a dog bowl, not to mention lots of cuddles!!!!
The food came and we all had different things but we ate everything. The food was absolutely delicious and great value. My partner is Irish and he confirmed that this was the best Guinness he had had in 9 years of visiting this area!!!!!
Cannot find fault with anything. The staff, the food, the atmosphere, the drinks and unbelievably dog friendly. I'm sorry I didn't get the lady's name who served us but it was the tall blonde lady, who was fantastic. The roaring fire was so inviting, we had to drag ourselves away. We will most...
