Harpers Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Thanet

Just some feedback from our experience here early this week while on a family holiday returning to my home town 10 years ago. I used to visit this place on a regular basis when I lived in Thanet 10 years ago and it was THE coolest bar in Broadstairs. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the place currently. We ordered 2 Aperol Spritz which were absolutely terrible! As a go to pre-dinner drink, I quite like them... (made correctly that is!) When it eventually arrived, it was very flat and didn't taste of much at all with NO ICE???! It tasted like Aperol and Soda water only... and the soda was flat. It was undrinkable. When we asked how it was made the lady went to ask the bar tender (i believe he was the manager?) who came back and said "Aperol, Processco and soda" we then said it is flat and doesn't taste right at all.. Which then the bar tender came to the table and said it was correct and that is how we make it here. Well you don't know how to make one! We said it should be 50% Apreol 50% Processco and a splash of soda with lots of ice.. He then said that's not how they make it here again. We then said it shows you how to make a Aperol Spritz on the bottle. Which he then still argued that's how they make it here and if we wanted to change it then we could but we have to pay the difference.. Went in for a Sunday roast ( sorry no pictures ) priced at just £10 with an option for a larger portion for £12. I opted for the chicken and was surprised to get 6 different vegetables including 5 toasties plus stuffing and a Yorkie. The chicken was a breast fillet which was moist and tasty. It came with a very generous jug if gravy and was all piping hot. I had a pint of Moretti which was just over a fiver which is about right. The staff were friendly and I had a chat with the owner about cocktails, they have an extensive menu. There were a number of other customers,some clearly regulars and others like me say visitors. Best recommendation I can give for a bar in Broadstairs.

Harpers, to me will always be the heart of Broadstairs. It has the most, and more importantly best memories I have of my few years living there. Great atmosphere, friendly, professional and enthusiastic staff who make fantastic (and dare I say) and the best cocktails in Broadstairs! Also, the management follow suit with the staff in being professional and equally welcoming!

Another nice thing about Harpers is that there's never any trouble, and the atmosphere is always fantastic with the live music from Thursday to Sunday.
