This is a quaint little place and well worth a visit. Normally I would give this a 2 or 3 star because of the lack of decent vegan options. However they did have soy milk and did us a large pot of tea to share between 3 of us which was nice and good tea. Also the service was very polite and pleasant which is my first area of concern when entering an establishment. So thanks for your service and making a good effort for your customers. I would suggest something for vegans that is more appealing as we really hate baked potatoes, only because it is the only thing we can have. But if this is a must then try making a chili bean topping which is suitable for vegans. Other ideas are vegan sausage in a roll with onions, mushrooms on toast, a hummus and salad wrap or the bean chili with nachos, all simple and cost effective. I would not normally suggest things but the vegan population is increasing and they have money, just look at Brighton, Hackney and Shoreditch. They will visit and will love your place but you need to be a bit astute...
Read moreThe Old Curiosity Shop or Tilly's is the most friendly and welcoming tea room I have ever been to. As a tea room the staff, food and service are all 5 * +. But this place is also a beautiful grade 2 listed building. It even has a well inside, with its own secrets ? (You'll have to go there to find out more about that ??)
But this tea shop has more to it than you would think. It's also the most amazing social hub with so much going on that it's impossible to list it all here. They have a Piano and Record Player with large collection of vinyl records. (Just ask the staff.)
A well equipped kid's corner with a settee and toys. But there is still more !
They also have active groups supporting the local community, covering a very wide range of subjects. Mother's and babies, Local Artists, Kids Cook, Astronomy, Yhatzee, Painting, Card Magic. To name just a few.
You really have to go there and ask what's on in the coming weeks. If you do go tell them I...
Read moreThe Old Curiosity Shop - a delightful experience! The food is simple yet delicious, and it's under new family-run management, which adds a personal touch. Had a fantastic conversation with Ms. Titty, who was kind enough to explain the café's history and made me feel right at home.
The atmosphere is cozy and charming, with an old-world vibe that transports you back to 1588. One of the standout features is the well inside, complete with two pirate skeletons—definitely a unique attraction!
I believe this is the coziest café in Broadstairs! They also have various upcoming events, like live art and quizzes, which adds to the community feel. If you're looking for a friendly place with great food and a bit of history, I'd highly recommend visiting the Old Curiosity Shop anyone visiting...
